Today is the shortest day, and I always find myself grateful. From here, the days lengthen—bringing growth, energy, and a gentle movement away from the urge to hide away and hibernate.

The Art of Autumn 🍃🍄🍂

I’m noticing myself slowing down with the season. What used to bring up feelings of “not doing enough” or “not keeping up with others” now feels different. Instead of comparing myself to people who seem endlessly busy and achieving so much, I’m learning to recognise my own rhythm — and trust it.

Since discovering my neurodivergence a year ago, I’ve been on a steady path of learning who I actually am, rather than who I spent years trying to be. It’s been surprisingly freeing. I’m finding it liberating replacing that old internal critic with a kinder, more accepting voice.

But I also know it’s not always simple. For some, this new understanding of identity can come with grief or anger — especially when you realise how many years were spent hiding, masking, or living without the self-acceptance you deserved.

I’m still learning, still unravelling, still growing. But for the first time, I’m doing it at my own pace — and learning to believe that my pace is valid.

Oh, and I love taking photos of gloriously photogenic fungi!! ✨🧡

!!! I posted this yesterday but I hadn’t realised that the video didn’t play. I hope now you’ll be able to enjoy the wonderful Snoop having fun on the beach 😊

🕊️ Liberty — once gained, still fragile. 🕊️

Like Snoop, my dog, running and playing without fear — unfiltered and unafraid. That’s what liberty looks like.

Many don’t have that liberty. Throughout history, liberty has come at a cost: physical and mental health, futures, lives lost.

Loss doesn’t end with one generation — trauma travels silently.

Today, liberty can be lost quietly too — through fear, hate, and the belief that some lives matter less.

Care, respect, and love aren’t weaknesses. They are strengths we must protect.

🌿 Shifting Seasons, Shifting Energy 🌙

As the seasons change, I’ve been reflecting on how our energy changes too.

Recently, in a group of neurodivergent people — each with our own unique rhythms and ways of sensing the world — we explored how our energy ebbs and flows: what drains us, what nourishes us, and how we notice when it’s time to recharge.

Some of us retreat into quiet, others carefully seek connection — noticing where our energy feels balanced and where it feels stretched. Some find movement in nature grounding, others find rest essential. There’s no one way — only the ongoing practice of noticing what each of us needs.

I’m learning to observe how my own energy moves — to recognise what restores me and what depletes me, and to offer myself care accordingly.

This feels especially important at this time of year, as the days grow shorter and darker. My body resists the early starts and long evenings that modern life expects me to push through. I’m learning to listen to that resistance, to slow down when I can, and to honour my natural rhythm instead of fighting against it.

One of the ways I nurture myself is by seeking out beauty — through art, nature, and the small details that remind me to pause and breathe. The image I’m sharing is by the wonderful Sam Cannon Art, whose work reminds me that “the inspiration you seek is already within you – be silent and listen.”

Perhaps this season invites you, too, to notice your own patterns — the ebb and flow of your energy, what fills your cup, and what gently asks to be let go. 🌙✨

This week would have been my mum’s 99th birthday.
This is part of a collage I made a few years ago — a flower created from photographs of some of the Fair Isle jumpers she knitted for me over the years. Each piece holds a memory, a touch of her care and creativity.

It’s lovely to notice how, over time, remembering her has become a joy rather than the heartbreak it once was. The ache of loss hasn’t gone, but it’s softened — making space for gratitude, warmth, and celebration.

Grief changes shape.
And with time, the love we thought we’d lost brings comfort and joy again. 🌿🤍

Old connections can remind us of who we were, and how much we’ve grown.

Over the summer holidays, I had the chance to reconnect with friends from childhood — some I hadn’t seen in decades. It was both a little nerve-wracking and deeply rewarding. Reconnecting reminded me that when we show up as our truest selves, relationships can be healing and grounding.

Learning that it’s safe to be genuine with those who knew us long ago can also make it easier to be open and vulnerable in new relationships. 🌿💚

Have you ever reconnected with someone from your past and noticed how you’ve changed — or how much of you has stayed the same?

These two trees in North Berwick have joined branches, holding each other as they grow. They remind me that when we reach out for connection, we can find support — and in supporting others, we support ourselves. 🌱
