GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP Update:
Hi everyone, I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the summer holidays. 💕
I just wanted to give you an update about the grief support group, as unfortunately there has been a change in my circumstances.
Just over a month ago, my dad had a significant stroke. It’s been a difficult time, and he is going to need a lot of time to recover. I am his main carer, and although I’m doing everything I can to support him, it has understandably had a big impact on my time and capacity.
As you know, we were due to start the group back next month, on the first Tuesday in September — 1st September. Unfortunately, with everything that has happened, I’ve realised that I can no longer commit to running the group on an unpaid basis.
I know some of you had suggested applying for funding, as did Alison, the manager at the community centre. However, I just don’t have the capacity to take that on myself at the moment. The application process would involve a lot of unpaid hours, evidencing why the funding is needed, and then ongoing work afterwards — and right now, I simply don’t have those extra hours to give.
I know another option would be to charge people to attend and cover the cost of hiring the room from Alison, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that. Some of the ladies have been coming since the beginning through Launch Group, and I wouldn’t feel right charging them. More importantly, I would hate for anyone to feel excluded from the group because they couldn’t afford to pay.
I explained all of this to Alison at Boomerang and she very kindly asked me to come in and have a chat. She is going to apply for funding through the community centre, which, if successful, would allow the centre to pay me for my time and services.
The funding application opens on 17th August, so I’m not sure how long it will take to hear whether it has been successful.
So, for now, I’m going to pause the September restart. I’ll let you all know as soon as I have an update, and hopefully, if the funding is approved, we’ll be able to get the group back up and running. 🤞💕
Thank you all for your understanding. ❤️
