Often when we think of the idea of retreat, we think of somewhere far away, completely peaceful and secluded. A place where we can escape from everything and go into a little zone of shanti. But life is not actually like that.
The reason I called this retreat Boundless Soul is because we are always that essence, spirit, and spark. Even when life is loud and there is so much going on, so many obstacles to face, we should always be able to come into yoga and the soul, to connect to something deeper.
Our retreat was located in Taghazout, a real Moroccan village with a real rhythm of life: schools, dogs barking, surfers coming back from the waves, people gathering together, music, markets, noise, life. I loved that.
One moment we could be wandering through a huge market, surrounded by people haggling for 10 dirhams of discount. Then later we could step into the studio and become completely absorbed in meditation, contemplation and practice.
This is the second time we have held a retreat in this place and I think that is exactly why we came back. It is about being fully alive. Learning a new culture, having adventures, meeting people, experiencing life so fully. Then coming back together again to practise, meditate, eat together, share together. Every yogi brought their curiosity, their unique heart and energy, and created this little bubble together. A safe and magical place where everybody could be completely themselves.
For me, that is yoga. Finding that connection to soul, spirit and something deeper while life is happening all around us. Full of gratitude 🙏
