WHY DOES COLOUR FADE WARM? 🤎🧡

Here’s a perfect example of what can happen when a colour fades over time.

This hair had faded to reveal an underlying orange undertone. That warmth isn’t necessarily because the colour was “wrong” — it’s often the natural underlying pigment in the hair becoming more visible as the artificial colour fades.

But why does colour fade and allow those warm tones to shine through?

There are several factors that can contribute, including:

🧴 Frequent shampooing – every wash can gradually remove artificial colour molecules, especially with more cleansing shampoos.

☀️ Sun exposure – UV rays can break down colour and oxidise the hair, causing it to look lighter and warmer.

🏊‍♀️ Chlorine & swimming – chlorine can contribute to oxidation and colour fading, particularly on colour-treated or lightened hair.

🔥 Heat styling – frequent use of straighteners, curling irons and high heat can contribute to colour degradation and damage.

💧 Hard water & mineral build-up – minerals such as copper and iron can build up on the hair and affect the way your colour looks, sometimes contributing to unwanted warmth.

🫧 Hair condition & porosity – more porous hair can struggle to retain artificial colour, meaning it may fade faster and less evenly.

✨ And this is why your colour aftercare matters!

The right professional products and aftercare routine can help protect your colour, maintain the condition of your hair and slow down unwanted fading between salon appointments.

Things like using a colour-friendly shampoo and conditioner, reducing excessive heat, protecting your hair from UV exposure and looking after your hair when swimming can all help you get more longevity from your colour.

Think of your salon appointment as the investment — your homecare is what helps you protect that investment. 🤎

🎨 This is where colour theory comes in.

Because blue sits opposite orange on the colour wheel, I used the correct blue-based tones to neutralise the unwanted orange, bringing the colour back to a more balanced, cooler result.

The after shows how understanding underlying pigment + colour theory + formulation can completely transform the finished result.

It’s not simply about putting a darker colour over the warmth. It’s about understanding WHY the warmth is there and HOW to neutralise it correctly.

✨ Before: faded, warm/orange undertone
✨ After: neutralised, balanced and refreshed

So if your colour starts looking warmer between appointments, don’t panic! It doesn’t necessarily mean your colour has “gone wrong” — it’s often simply the underlying pigment becoming visible as your colour fades.

✨ I feel better in my 40s than I ever did in my 30s. ✨

When I look at the photo on the left, I barely recognise that woman.

She was exhausted, overwhelmed, struggling with her mental health, and had completely lost herself. After experiencing heartbreaking miscarriages, becoming a mum, and putting everyone else first, I reached one of the lowest points in my life.

That was the moment I decided something had to change.

I started my health and fitness journey at my lowest ebb and slowly worked my way back to the confident, happy girl I remembered from my 20s. It wasn’t about becoming someone new—it was about finding myself again.

Now, at 41, I genuinely feel the best I’ve ever felt in my own skin. ❤️

Don’t get me wrong… perimenopause still kicks my arse some days! 😅 But I’ve finally learned how to support my body with the right nutrition, movement and supplementation so I can truly glow from the inside out.
