👐 I believe your first appointment should be more than just a conversation.
When someone comes to see me in pain, I know they haven't booked an appointment simply to spend most of it filling in forms, talking about their symptoms and then going home with a sheet of exercises.
Of course, "assessment matters".
I need to understand your symptoms, relevant medical history, how the problem started and — importantly — whether what you are presenting with is appropriate for the treatment I provide.
But I also believe in using our time wisely.
⏱️ "My aim is to keep the necessary assessment focused, so that whenever it is appropriate and safe, we can begin treatment during your first appointment."
And treatment in my clinic does not mean following the same massage routine for every person.
🔹 One problem. More than one tool.
Depending on what I find and what is appropriate for you, I may combine different approaches within your treatment:
👐 Remedial & Sports Massage
💪 Hands-on soft-tissue and manual techniques
📍 Dry Needling
⚡ Electroacupuncture
🔴 Cupping Therapy
〰️ Kinesiology Taping
💥 Shockwave Therapy
Sometimes one technique is enough.
Sometimes a combination works better.
And sometimes the most important thing I can do is recognise that your symptoms "should not be treated by me at all" and recommend that you speak to your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional.
That distinction matters.
🧠 I don't treat a back, shoulder or knee. I treat the person who walked through my door.
A painful shoulder doesn't exist separately from the rest of your body.
Neither does your lower back.
Your previous injuries, occupation, activity levels, medication, health history and the way your body moves can all influence the decisions I make during a session.
After many years of working with people — and 54 years of life experience — I've learnt that listening is important.
But so is knowing "when to stop talking and start working."
My approach is straightforward:
🔎 "Assess what needs assessing."
👐 "Treat what can appropriately be treated."
🧭 "Refer or advise when something needs to go elsewhere."
🏃 "Give exercises when they genuinely add value — not simply because everyone should leave with an exercise sheet."
No two bodies are identical.
So I don't believe every treatment should be identical either.
If you've been living with muscular or musculoskeletal pain, stiffness or restricted movement and would like a hands-on, individual approach, you can find more information about my work and book an appointment online.
