I love this little animation that explains grief.

Obviously every journey is unique but sometimes it helps to look at things in a more simple way.

My Gran would have been 106 today. Happy birthday Gran πŸ’•

I am so lucky to have a close loving family and have so many wonderful memories of my incredibly sharp witted Gran.

She gave me my love for the sound of a ticking clock and chocolate Krispies. She made me laugh all the time and I think I definitely inherited her sarcasm.

She was also a loving Great Gran and spent time with all four of her great granddaughters before she died.

I still miss her very much but she is so present in my thoughts and life that it keeps her memory close and for that I am grateful.

Speaking at Gran's funeral was so healing and started me on my journey to becoming a funeral celebrant. Today I am who I am because of the joy I found in telling her story.

Thank you Gran and Happy birthday πŸŽ‚ ###

As a celebrant, end-of-life doula and educator in all things death, you might wonder if I become immune to the emotion.
The answer is NEVER. And if I ever do, it’s time to quit.

I just take moments to care for myself. Moments to remember. Moments to cry.

Today, after a service for a lovely mum, gran and great-gran, I waited until the family and funeral directors had left and quietly visited the grave of my Auntie Sheila who was resting nearby.

Nearly two years ago, I laid her to rest myself. To be able to do that for my cousin and for my mum, was such an honour.

Today I gave her a wee polish, pulled some weeds, straightened her little plaques and told her we were all fine.

Then I cried β€” for the memories, for my family gone before me, and for all the families I have had the privilege of supporting.

Because, really, if you can't sit and cry in a cemetery, where can you?

Now, having spent a little time with the dead, I’m ready to return to supporting the living.

Tears are good. Tears are okay. Tears are healing. And we all need to be allowed to heal. ❀️

Thank you to Hazel Webb for your fantastic feedback. Your family were an absolute pleasure to work with. Your mum was quite the character ### thinking of you all and hope you all raised a glass and your voices in her honour this afternoon music 🎡🎢🎡

Shared with the kind permission of the family πŸ’•

Such a beautiful service today. We had a photo slide show, poetry by her grandson , many references to John Lennon, a piper, a horse leading the cortège with the family following on behind the hearse, sunshine, bright colours, music, family laying roses and the children placing butterfly pictures they had made in beside their Great Gran.

It was the perfect send off for a 60's loving forever young hippy heart 🌹
Tears were shed by everyone but there was also laughter and smiles 😊

It's so easy to add little personal touches to a service and of course for me seeing the children fully involved, stepping up to the graveside, letting their butterflies fall and waving goodbye to Great Gran just confirmed that bringing children to funerals is healthy and healing.

Thank you to this lovely family for thinking outside of the box and creating a wonderful celebration of life πŸ¦‹

Sending you all my love and prayers for the days ahead πŸ’• πŸ™

Pushing Up the Daisies on tour in Edinburgh yesterday advertising our advice line.

Dietmar and five other Daisy Chain members had a great day chatting with those who stopped by.

Apparently children loved testing out the coffin ⚰️. Now isn't that interesting πŸ˜„
