Let this image sink in for a moment......
Our early life shapes us much more than you might think. Constant exposure to criticism, comparison, and always being told to be quiet, being told that your voice doesnt matter can cause so much pain and so much trauma.
In narcissistic parental abuse the damage can be so deep and so profound. This is probably the most damaging type of narcissistic abuse because as children we look to our parents first for safety.
And worse...the world image of the family is not what is behind closed doors. For a child that's hard to navigate.
In the world narrative we are told to unconditionally love and to 'respect your parents' .....and you may want to, but nothing you do is right. πŸ˜”
And so πŸ˜” you may find yourself tip toeing around them and questioning your every move.
You are on edge, hypervigilent, smeared, isolated....
When they argue or things go wrong...it was always your fault.

But here is the good news...none of this was your fault, even if you were told that it was.
You were not responsible for the fighting...the arguing...the drama.
And you don't have to carry the shame.
Healing with proper support and therapy can ensure you don't carry the patterns and cycle that hurt you.
You can heal with dignity and know your own truth.

With love and compassion.

Why am I always on edge… even when nothing is happening?
Narcissistic abuse can teach your nervous system to expect danger.
After living with gaslighting, criticism, manipulation or unpredictable behaviour, you may notice yourself scanning for changes in tone, overthinking conversations or struggling to fully relax.
That can be hypervigilance, a trauma response.
Your body learned to protect you.
And with the right support, it can learn to feel safe again. You can reclaim your life.
Save this for the days when you question yourself or with someone who needs to hear it.
Its not and never was your fault.

With gentle understanding
Maria

Do you ever find yourself thinking...
"It's always my fault."
That thought often doesn't begin in adulthood.
For many people, it started in childhood, where repeated criticism, conflict, rejection or emotional neglect taught the brain to expect blame and danger.
The hippocampus, the part of the brain that helps process and organise memories, can be affected by traumatic experiences. When something in the present feels similar to what happened in the past, your brain may react as though the old threat is happening all over again.
Your heart races.
You feel anxious.
You shut down.
You apologise, even when you've done nothing wrong.
These reactions aren't a sign that you're weak.
They're often a normal response to experiences your nervous system learned were unsafe.
The good news?
The brain is capable of change. Trauma-informed CBT and other evidence-based therapies such as EMDR can help you process painful memories, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and create new, healthier patterns.

Healing isn't about forgetting the past.

It's about teaching your brain that you're safe now.

πŸ’š Save this post for the days you need the reminder, and share it with someone who might need to hear these words today.

Growth isn't measured by how perfect your life looks.

It's measured by the quiet moments.

The conversation you finally had.

The boundary you confidently set.

The panic attack you recovered from.

The intrusive thought you let pass.

The day you asked for help.

These moments may seem small.

But they're often the biggest signs that healing is taking place.

Celebrate your progress, however it looks.

Every step counts.

With love and encouragement,
Maria πŸ’š

Anxiety has a way of convincing us that danger is everywhere. It keeps us scanning for problems, expecting the worst and preparing for situations that may never happen.

Living like this is exhausting.

Therapy doesn't remove every challenge from life.
It helps you respond differently.

To notice anxious thoughts without believing every one of them.
To feel calmer in your body.
To trust yourself again.

You are stronger than anxiety would have you believe.

With compassion,
Maria πŸ’š

When life feels overwhelming, it's easy to focus on everything that's going wrong.

Instead, take a moment to notice what's helping.

Perhaps it's...

πŸ’š A morning walk.
πŸ’š A conversation with a friend.
πŸ’š Your favourite cup of tea.
πŸ’š Five minutes of quiet.
πŸ’š Therapy.

Small things often make the biggest difference.

I'd love to know...
What's helping you at the moment?

Your answer might be exactly what someone else needs to hear today.

With kindness,
Maria πŸ’š

Taking a break is the perfect time to slow down and simply be you. 🌿
As Oscar Wilde said, "Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."
We won't always look our best. We won't always get it right. We may sometimes say the wrong thing.....
But..... it's through those imperfect moments that we grow, learn, and become stronger.
We shouldn't worry about judgement and we especially shouldn't judge ourselves.

So let go of the pressure to be perfect. Laugh, make memories, embrace every flaw, and never be afraid of being your authentic self.
Because the real you is more than enough. πŸ’›βœ¨

With breath and joy

Enjoy who you are 🀍

The relationship you have with yourself is the one you'll carry for life.

Every thought you think...
Every word you say to yourself...
Every belief you hold...

They all shape how you see the world.

If you've spent years believing you're not enough, it's understandable that confidence feels difficult.

The good news is that beliefs can change.

Through self-awareness, compassion and therapies such as CBT, those old beliefs can be challenged and replaced with kinder, healthier ones.

You deserve to see yourself through kinder eyes.

With warmth,
Maria πŸ’š
