Kobashi Essential Oils

Kobashi Essential Oils 100% pure essential oils, carrier oils, hydro, bath, aromatherapy and skin care products since 1985 Welcome to KOBASHI

Lynda Ballard founder of Kobashi.

"I started Kobashi in 1985 with the goal of supplying the best Essential Oils and Aromatherapy products at good prices. I am happy to say, that with the help of many people we have accomplished that goal. We originally set up to supply the Health Food industry and now also supply thousands of Therapists, Clinics, and Hospitals worldwide." Kobashi is a well established company that prides itself on

the quality of its products. All of our oils are from named botanical species, 100% natural, unadulterated, nothing added or taken away unless needed to make safer, of the highest quality and tested for their authenticity. We use the latest testing equipment: GC & GC-MS systems in conjunction with HP Chem-station and Wiley’s 360,000 chemical spectrum's library, testing to parts per trillion. We reject any oil if pesticides or herbicides are found. The oils structural testing has been operated by Dr. Kevin Brigden, Iryna Labunska, Scott Ballard and others at laboratories in Exeter, France and Scotland. Kobashi has an extensive library on essential oil data to cross reference-research the oils.

95% of our packing materials are 100% biodegradable. We are working to make this 100% without the products breaking in shipping. Kobashi has been Campaigning to end animal experiments since 1985. We do not believe animal testing is valid for humans. The ugly truth is, even though there are alternatives to animal testing, all products in the world have been tested on animals at on time or another. We can only try to stop it. Note: if some lab somewhere on this planet is animal testing anything, for any reason, we want it stopped immediately. We do not believe any life should be sustained through the harm of another. We encourage people to use peaceful alternatives. We must make the best stance against animal testing that we can. All Kobashi products are Animal Free and suitable for Vegetarians or Vegans.

A little summer catch-up ☀️ 🌿

So far it' been a busy season here at Kobashi. While we've been a little quiet on here, behind the scenes we've been harvesting, distilling and making. Here are a few moments from over the past weeks...

1. Chamomile picking in June
2. Loading the still
3. Melissa and catnip
4. Prepping melissa for distilling
5 & 6. Catnip distillation (hydrolat available soon)
7. Calendula harvest
8. Sunset skies over our workshop

Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a favourite of honey bees 🐝

All of our catnip plants are in flower now, time to distill a new hydrolat! Will you try it?

Selected hydrolats in our range, including peppermint and our artisan German chamomile, are grown and small-batch distilled by us here in Devon, making them extra special 🌿

Where did spring go?!... 🌱

A compilation of some favourite Kobashi moments from April & May.

1. Dougal chilling with the herbs
2. The meadow (sound on for birdsong 🐦‍⬛)
3. The woodland edge, full of bluebells and wild garlic
4. Our Melissa plot putting on fresh leafy growth
5. Ladybirds doing their thing on the chamomile (natural aphid control!)
6. Bees nesting in our warehouse larch cladding — we think this may be a female red mason bee 🐝. Any bee experts out there, let us know!
7. The swallows arrived in the third week of April
8. Our woodland carpeted in wild garlic and bluebells
9. Wild garlic foraging

It's been a beautiful spring here in Devon.

Sweet marjoram, a very underrated oil 🌿

Warm, herbaceous and deeply comforting, it’s one we find ourselves returning to again and again.

Beautiful in blends for rest, tight muscles and nervous tension, sweet marjoram has a gentle, restorative quality that’s easy to overlook.

In old herblore, marjoram was associated with comfort and happiness. Greek myth links it to Amaracus, a royal perfumer who spilled precious aromatic oils and was transformed into the fragrant herb.

How do you like to use marjoram?

Sweet violets (Viola odorata) flourishing amongst the tree roots.

One of the earliest to return, low to the ground and perhaps easy to miss unless you’re looking for them, Viola odorata is the only scented violet native to the UK.

Legend tells that you may only smell sweet violets once because they 'steal' your sense of smell. Theres actually a little truth to this, as sweet violets contain beta-ionone, a chemical that overwhelms and temporarily shuts off our smell receptors.

The aroma of Sweet violet flowers has been valued through history, and very locally to us in Devon, they supported a whole perfume industry around 100 years ago.

After the stillness of winter, these little aromatic pops of colour feel very welcome.

Solstice occurred at 15.03 on the 21st of December. The sun has been reborn and the days now lengthen - a symbol of hope and renewal in the darkness.

A gentle reminder that we will be closing tomorrow (23rd December) at 4pm, until the 5th of January. Any orders placed after 1pm on the 23rd, may not be shipped until we reopen. So if there's anything you need, do order now.

I want to say thank you so much for all your support this year, for being part of what allows us to keep doing what we do.

We’ll be using this quieter time to rest, restore and prepare for the year ahead, and we hope you’re able to do the same.

The last moon of the year rose bright and close, the 'Cold Moon' and third sequential supermoon of the year.
The meadow is in its winter rest. Slowing, storing, waiting for the light to return.
Nature reminds that we also must find stillness, amongst the business of the festive season. 🌕✨

St John’s Wort Essential Oil (Hypericum perforatum) organically grown in Bulgaria. The enticing aroma is reminiscent of a balmy afternoon in a sun-soaked orchard meadow.

🌿 Extraction
Steam-distilled from the flowering tops of Hypericum perforatum. A rare, specialist essential oil. Not to be confused with the macerated red oil (with different therapeutic effects). The percentage of essential oil in the plant itself is very low at less than 0.1% which is similar to Melissa, thus the high price.

✨ Aroma & Constituents
Warm, bright, dry-herbaceous, with sweet candy-floral notes and earthy, resinous undertones. Contains a-pinene, b-caryophyllene, and germacrene D among other sesquiterpenes.

💛 Traditional Use
St John's Wort is historically valued for protection, soothing nerves, uplifting the spirit, and supporting healing of minor wounds, burns, and inflammation among other uses.

🕯️ Aromatherapeutic Actions
Uplifting, comforting, and emotionally balancing. Topically, SJW essential oil may ease muscular tension and support skin recovery.
