International Self-Care Day was the 24th July. It is a good reminder to make sure we look after our physical, mental, and emotional health. But this is important all year round too.

At Recovery College Online, we have around 75 free courses available on our website. Many of these can help you to look after yourself. We have listed some of these courses below.

You need to create a free online account to be able to access most of our courses on the website. We just ask for a username, email address and password. Anyone can access our courses as long as they are over 13. We also have some open courses which you can do without creating an account.

Our courses remember where you get up to. So, you can choose to take a break and return to them at a different time.

Alcohol Awareness Week

The 7th to the 13th July is Alcohol Awareness Week.

RCO has its own course all about drinking, drugs, and the health effects.

The course looks at:
1. Why people drink.

2. The effects of drinking.

3. Advice and guidance for cutting back or quitting if you want to.

New story on our website

Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week. You might have heard more people talking about mental health and wellbeing last week or places sharing things on social media or holding awareness events. The theme of mental heath awareness week was taking action.

It’s important to look after our mental health all year round not just during Mental Health Awareness week. The new story on our website talks all about this through a person’s experience of OCD and the difference therapy and other groups have had on their life.

The International Day of Families

Today is the United Nation’s International Day of Families. The theme this year includes promoting work-family balance.

We have two courses that tie in with this topic.
One is Health, Wellbeing and Employment, which includes a section on work-life balance.
The other is Balancing Everyday Activities for Wellbeing. This looks at how to balance what you do you in your life.

New course called ‘Moving Forward After Difficult Times and Building Resilience’ for Adults.

Recovery College Online have launched a new course this Mental Health Awareness Week.

The course is for adults and talks all things resilience including:

• What it is.
• Some of the different models of resilience
• Giving you the opportunity to think about resilience.
• How you can build resilience.
• How building connections can increase your resilience.

The course is free, you can complete it in your own time and it will save where you get up to.

Anyone can do any of our courses and you will get a certificate when you complete it. It is also a great way which you can take action this Mental Health Awareness Week either to help yourself or help you to support someone else.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week:

Mental Health Awareness Week has a theme this year of action.

If you haven't done so already, sign up to Recovery College Online. We are a free way to help you learn more about your mental health and how to look after it.

We have a wide range of free online courses about understanding mental health, building resilience, and developing practical skills to support wellbeing.

Courses are made by people with lived experience of mental health challenges and mental health professionals working together.

The courses can be done by anyone and you get a certificate for completing them!

Today we will be at the Drop In Health and Wellbeing Day at Wingate Community Association (TS28 5AA) from 10 -11AM. Pop along to find out more about Recovery College Online and ARCH Recovery College as well as lots of other services. See the below post for more information.

Join us for our Health & Wellbeing Day drop in at Wingate Community Association next Monday 11th May between 10am-11am 📍

Services will be there to signpost you for support, such as Durham Wellbeing Alliance, Dual Diagnosis from County Durham Drug & Alcohol, Stop Smoking Practitioner, ARCH Recovery College along with EDMG's Social Prescribers, a Physician Associate for weight loss support and CRT Horden Hub House who run a weekly Monday club with a chair exercise class 11am-12pm.
