World Breastfeeding Week (1–7 August) celebrates and promotes the importance of breastfeeding for both babies and parents. 🌸 It’s a global campaign led by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), aiming to raise awareness about how breastfeeding contributes to good health, nutrition, and sustainable development.

💡 Key Themes
Empowering parents with accurate information and support.

Creating supportive workplaces that enable breastfeeding or expressing milk.

Building community networks to help families feel encouraged and cared for.

Promoting healthy beginnings through informed feeding choices.

🌍 Why It Matters
Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition, strengthens immunity, and fosters emotional bonding. The week also acknowledges diverse feeding journeys — including mixed or bottle-feeding — ensuring every family feels supported.

🌼 Hayfever Medication Update

Hayfever season is here, and we know symptoms can be really uncomfortable. Most hayfever treatments are now no longer available on NHS prescription, as they can be easily bought from pharmacies and supermarkets.

You can buy these over the counter:

Antihistamine tablets and liquids (cetirizine, loratadine, fexofenadine, etc.)

Steroid nasal sprays (including beclometasone)

Sodium cromoglicate eye drops

These are safe, effective, and often cheaper to buy directly.

💊 When can the GP prescribe?
We can only prescribe in very limited situations, such as Fexofenadine 180mg, and only if:

You’ve already tried over‑the‑counter treatments and they haven’t helped, or

You need these medicines for another diagnosed condition (e.g., pet/food allergies or rhinitis treatment).

If your symptoms are severe or not improving, please get in touch — we’re here to help you manage your hayfever and stay well.

🌿 Thank you for your understanding.

Men’s Health Week is a reminder that taking care of your health isn’t a luxury — it’s essential. Many men put work, family, and daily pressures first, often pushing their own wellbeing to the bottom of the list. This week encourages everyone to pause, check in, and take small but meaningful steps toward better health.

Men are encouraged to speak openly about how they’re feeling, book routine checks, and seek support early rather than waiting until something becomes urgent. Whether it’s physical health, mental wellbeing, or simply making time for rest, every step counts.

At our practice, we’re committed to supporting men to stay well — through regular health checks, open conversations, and a friendly, confidential space to ask questions. Looking after yourself helps you stay strong for the people who rely on you, and more importantly, for yourself.
