We work with people aged 12-20 to encourage self-belief and discipline whilst teaching skills of first aid, leadership, engineering and more! License to Fly ✈️

It's not just the Cadets whose skills and experience gained through the organisation can help to share their futures.

During her time as a Cadet and CFAV at , CI Becca Warnock has embraced every aviation opportunity available. From a range of Air Experience and Gliding Induction flights, to attending the The Royal International Air Tattoo, and even being awarded a flying scholarship courtesy of the The Air League, where she was able to return to RIAT as an ambassador.

In her final year as a Cadet in 2024, Becca successfully completed a Gliding Scholarship to gain her Silver Wings at 661 Volunteer Gliding Squadron, RAF Kirknewton, before quickly replacing these with a set of Gold Wings to become one of the first Cadets in the Corps to fly a Grob Tutor solo under the new Air Cadet Pilot Scheme (ACPS). Along the way, she has also been able to use her experiences to give back to Cadets by running Blue Synthetic training on the unit.

A few weeks ago, all of this culminated in CI Warnock earning her Private Pilot’s License at Perth Airport courtesy of ACS Flight Training in the Cessna 152 following years of hard work and dedication!! 🥳🥳 An incredible achievement, huge congratulations Becca, we cannot wait to see where your aviation journey takes you next! 👏👏

Summer of Skills 🤩

Camp No. 3 for the Squadron this summer was the North Scotland Wing Air Training Corps, RAFAC Skills Camp at the end of July at RAF Lossiemouth, where was represented by FS Johnston, Cpl Wills and Sgt Barclay.

Over the week, both Cadets took part in a wide range of Progressive Training Syllabus activities including Radio, Shooting, First Aid, Music, Space and Roadmarching. We also had Cdt Mortimer-Lataix attend to undertake the Bronze Radio courze, whilst Sgt Barclay led the Silver Radio Part 1 module along with getting stuck in with Bronze Radio and Bronze Cyber training.

The Camp also had the opportunity to visit No. 1 (F) Squadron on the Station for a tour of the Typhoons and get a photo in front of the aircraft ✈️

As a result of the week, FS Johnston earnt his Blue Roadmarching badge and Cpl Wills gained his Activities First Aid (Silver) badge and Advanced Voice Operator module that is one half of the Silver Radio award 👏👏

Well done to you both! It's been a busy summer for the Squadron so far and we're still not done sharing what we have been up to!

Making the Most of It 💪

The second camp this Summer for was FS Johnston and Sgt Barclay attending Week 1 of the Little Rissington Multi-Activity Camp, which saw over 100 personnel from SNI, C&E and LaSER come together following the cancellation of this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo.

Throughout the week, FS Johnston took part in the vast range of activities on offer including Archery, Contuinity Drilll, Flight Simulators, Sports, First Aid, Gliding, and a visit from the RAF Regiment. Whilst Sgt Barclay got involved with instructing the Cyber and Contuinity Drill on offer along with some Air Rifle LFMT.

As if the week wasn’t busy enough, FS Johnston also celebrated his 18th birthday, being treated to a Camp sing-along and presented with a cake and card signed by the whole Squadron (video in the comments 🎉)

But it’s safe to say that the highlight of the week was the Chinook flight courtesy of RAF Benson where everyone was treated to a short flight over the local area and it even managed to make an appearance in the Camp photo!

A massive thank you to the entire Staff team for pulling together such a great week at short notice, we look forward to seeing return to RAF Fairford for RIAT 2027! 🙌

Summer Camp Success ☀️

The Squadron may be stood down over July, but of course we've still been busy with Cadets and Staff from attending multiple camps over the past few weeks. First up, Sgt McDonald and WO Cooper attended the North Scotland Wing Air Training Corps, RAFAC Annual Blues Camp at RAF Valley in North Wales.

Over the week, the group visited many areas of the Station which make up No. 4 Flying Training School, including 72 Sqn with the Texan T1 and 4 & 5 Sqns with the Hawk, where both aircrafts are used in fast jet training for RAF Pilots. Along with seeing the Juno and Jupiter helicopters at 202 Sqn and speaking to both the Station Commander and Station Warrant Offficer.

They also took part in a range of other activities including rock climbing, orentieering, karaoke and visiting the beach to enjoy all the nice weather 🏖️

A brilliant week, always great to see 102 representation on Blues Camps!

New Horizons ✈️

On the last Parade Night before our summer shut down, we said farewell to a member of our Staff Team.

CI Steve Bell joined in 2024 following a move to Aberdeen as part of his job as a Pilot at Bristow Group, and over the couple of years he has been with us, Steve has gotten stuck in with all things Aviation and Radio - along with making great progress as our Health and Safety Officer! He has also helped to facilitate visits from multiple Squadrons across North Scotland Wing Air Training Corps, RAFAC to use the Flight Simulators at the Bristow Training Centre in Dyce which the Squadron was lucky enough to also take a visit to last year.

Steve now takes the next step in his career by moving abroad to help train the next generation of pilots. To mark his last night, Flt Lt McLachlan presented him with a card and gifts on behalf of the Squadron.

Although it may be slightly quieter without being scared by the fire alarm each week, we will still see CI Bell when he comes back to Aberdeen for training. Best of luck Steve, don’t be a stranger! 🍀

Making our Mark 💪

In the middle of June, attended the Gordon Barracks for the annual North Scotland Wing Air Training Corps, RAFAC Competitions, being spread over a weekend this year for the first time.

Saturday focused on all of the 'Blues' events, with the Squadron entering the Foot Drill, Banner Drill, Aircraft Recognition and Media competitions, along with putting in teams for the 'Greens' events of First Aid and Air Rifle on the Sunday.

After witnessing some tough competition across the two days, we are pleased to announce that FS Scott placed 3rd in the Banner Bearer competition which is absolutely incredible for his first year!! 🥳👏 And with this year being the first Wing Competitions for many of our Cadets, it's great to see so many get involved with the range of events.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your hard work in the weeks leading up to the competitions and on the weekend itself. Bring on next year! 🙌

Armed Forces Day 2026 🫡

This weekend saw 9 members of join units from Sectors 3, 4 & 5 for the Aberdeen Armed Forces Parade. Over 100 personnel from North Scotland Wing Air Training Corps, RAFAC marched through the city centre alongside service personnel, veterans, reservists and other Cadet organisations.

To celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Air Training Corps, the Squadron Banner was on parade being carried by Sgt McDonald. We also had Flt Lt McLachlan on the Dais outside Marischal College representing the Royal Air Force Air Cadets with OC Wing, Wg Cdr Smith where this year’s salute was taken by Dr. David Cameron as the Lord Lieutenant for Aberdeen City. Saturday also marked the official start of FS Scott’s term as Lord Lieutenant's Cadet for Aberdeen City!

Well done to all of you for taking part and thank you to everyone who came out to show support for our Armed Forces 👏🇬🇧
