Most of you know I’ve been teaching yoga for nearly 20 years, and during that time my understanding of movement has evolved.
I still love yoga and always will (I was at a class this morning and it was awesome❤️), but I’ve come to realise that being flexible on its own isn’t enough. Equally, being strong on its own isn’t enough either.
For years I chased “the edge” of a pose, always looking for a little more flexibility. Sometimes it worked…but sometimes it left me feeling vulnerable, and I injured myself because my body simply wasn’t strong enough to support the position I was asking it to hold.
Then I discovered strength training.
That was another revelation. I became stronger than ever, but I also realised that lifting weights alone wasn’t giving me everything I needed. Being able to deadlift or hip thrust a heavy weight doesn’t automatically mean you’ll move well in everyday life.
That’s when everything clicked.
Mobility is flexibility with strength.
That one sentence completely changed how I think about movement.
To me, mobility means building strength, control and confidence throughout your range of movement…not simply chasing a deeper stretch. It also means understanding that our bodies respond best when they feel safe. Through breathing, awareness, patience and strength, we create the conditions for better movement rather than forcing it.
That’s exactly what The Twisted Method…and Movement Club…is all about.
Not achieving the perfect yoga pose…but helping you feel strong enough to get down to the floor, lift a suitcase, reach into the back of the car, play with your grandchildren, enjoy your favourite sports and, ultimately…
keep saying yes to life.
But don’t just take my word for it…
Here’s what Tony has to say💙
Keep doing what you love.
