How I found my way into massage therapy 🤍
My journey into becoming a massage therapist started in a place I never expected.
I was 26, and six months after my mum passed away, I decided to go travelling on my own for a month around Thailand. I think, at the time, I was trying to “find myself”.
The truth is, I felt completely numb. I had been through so much that I almost felt disconnected from my own emotions.
One day, after spending hours walking around as many temples as I could, I decided to have a massage. They were so affordable that it seemed like an easy thing to do without really thinking much about it.
What I didn’t realise was just how much I needed it.
I had been carrying so much tension in my body without even being aware of it. As the massage went on, I could physically feel some of that tension releasing — and somehow, mentally, I felt lighter too.
It was one of the first times I truly understood that the body and mind are so deeply connected.
During that trip I met some amazing people, volunteered at an elephant sanctuary and had experiences I’ll never forget. Eventually, I came home feeling ready to start the next chapter.
Here are some pictures from that trip to Thailand. 🇹🇭🤍
But that massage stayed with me.
I wanted to understand more about how it could have such an effect, so I booked myself onto an introductory massage course.
I still remember the first massage I received there. I was so completely relaxed and spaced out afterwards that I sat in my car for a while because I genuinely didn’t feel ready to drive home! 😂
That night, I had one of the best sleeps I’d ever had.
And that was it. I was hooked.
I qualified in Swedish massage and then went on to complete my Level 4 Sports Massage, becoming fascinated by how the body works, injuries and how we can support the body through recovery.
From there, I continued learning and qualified in oncology massage, pregnancy massage and menopause massage.
What started as a hobby over 10 years ago slowly became something I knew I wanted to pursue more seriously.
A few years ago, after experiencing burnout in a demanding job in London, I made the decision to leave and take the leap into starting my own business full-time.
Looking back, it feels like everything somehow came full circle.
The massage I had in Thailand, at a time when I was struggling to feel anything, introduced me to something that would eventually become my career — and something that has helped me understand so much about the connection between our physical and emotional wellbeing.
Honestly, it is the best job I’ve ever done.
It’s challenging, it’s constantly teaching me something new, but above all, it’s incredibly rewarding.
Being able to help someone feel less pain, release tension, move more freely, switch off for an hour, or simply feel a little more like themselves again is something I never take for granted.
Sometimes the things we stumble across when we’re lost end up helping us find exactly where we’re meant to be. 🤍
And I think that’s what massage therapy was for me. ✨
