What is Equine sports massage? Equine sports massage is used to maintain performance and prevent musculoskeletal problems. Equine sports massage can be used to treat muscular problems, therefore enhancing the horse’s performance. Veterinarians will often refer horses for massage treatment. My services can be performed before or after an event as well as used as maintenance for the horse or alongside rehabilitation. As well as equine musculoskeletal therapy Abbott Equine Therapy is offering schooling, rehabilitation and full livery services. Please don't hesitate to contact me for more information:

Hot Hot Hot! 🥵

Please try and keep your horses cool over the next couple of days. The weather has gone from 14 degrees to 32 without a gradual increase 🤦‍♀️ meaning our horses are not used to the heat! Try to ride in the cooler parts of the day, hydrate them often by leaving accessible water near them and make sure they have access to shade. You can also supply electrolytes and cold mashes to encourage hydration.

Heat stroke is a thing! Please avoid riding in the middle of the day. ☀️

Heat stroke signs:
Rapid breathing
Rapid heart rate
Stumbling
Collapse
Lethargy
Excessive sweating.

With new followers on board, here is what I can offer 🤩

I graduated in 2016 with a BSc (Hons) in Equine Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation. I then went on to study the practical methods of equine sports massage. For 10 years I have been aiding the success in competition horses, keeping the older horse comfortable and supple, helping with the rehabilitation of injuries and working closely with vets. I am permitted to work at FEI shows. Insured and certified.

I am here for the journey! That means messages will be answered at any time, yep that could even be 11pm 😂 believe me it’s happened 🤣 but I’m here to help!
No question is a silly one, we all have to learn at some point 🫶🏻
I have also worked in insurance, so any insurance related questions, fire away! I’m here to guide you and I can make an invoice for any of my claimable treatments. Any injuries or rehab cases will need a vet referral but once I have gained this I will be with you through the whole journey!

What do you see?
A shoulder?

I see a subclavius muscle being released. Did you know that the subclavius muscle helps support the horses trunk by absorbing shock and stabilising the shoulder.
A short stride can be caused by this tension.

This technique is what I use on every horse to help release tension within the shoulder muscles

Another worrying post today that I have seen, an owner looking for another therapist to apply their therapy on a lame horse… please can I remind everyone that lameness is for a vet to treat only!
If a horse is lame a therapist should be advising for the owner to seek veterinary advice. If they see your horse is lame, it is for the therapist to advise to get a vet, the therapist should not be applying therapy..
Us therapist cannot diagnose. We do not have X-rays, ultrasounds, MRI’s…
Therefore we cannot diagnose. Also we do not have the qualifications lawfully to diagnose unless we are a vet.
Too many owners hold off of vets when actually that is the one thing the horse needs. Even if it’s not the cost you want to face.
Once diagnosed a therapist can gain veterinary consent from the vet to then use their therapy on that horse.

Please keep this in mind. The money you would spend on a therapist, may as well go towards the vet bill.

Appreciating the little moments, I do love my job 🥰
Pictured here is a new forest pony that I have seen for 8 years now! He’s doing so well where .slater_ has been doing her homework with ground work sessions over poles. It’s always nice to have a catch up and keep Barney feeling extra supple in his veteran years

Due to more followers, here is another introduction about myself and the services I offer:

In 2016 I graduated the BSc (Hons) Equine sports therapy and rehabilitation degree.
I then studied an additional course to learn the manual technique involved for equine sports massage.

Since 2016 I have helped with many rehabilitation successes in DDFT and ligament injuries, Cervical and thoracic spine changes, SI inflammation, and many other injuries.

I also focus on keeping the ridden / competitive horse and also retired horses feeling supple and free from muscular restriction.

Muscular tension can show with common discomfort signs such as crib biting, refusing, bucking, evading but also by presenting as being ‘lazy’. Sometimes the signs are not always obvious.

I attend shows and tend to be at the summer stay aways within the showjumping and dressage circuit. So I will be available at these this year as well as normal non-show bookings.

My services:
Equine Sports massage
K-Tape
Red light therapy (great for repair of tissues)
Biomechanic ridden evaluation
Rehabilitation

Please do not hesitate to get in touch! I am here to help you and your equine friend to succeed and stay comfortable.

Follow if you haven’t already to make sure you don’t miss discount opportunities!
