There’s guilt attached to it.

There’s the fear that I’m losing condition.

There’s the temptation to pull food back down again before I’ve even given my body the opportunity to settle.

And that’s the part of getting lean that I don’t think we talk about enough.

Because body dysmorphia doesn’t necessarily disappear just because you’re in good shape. Far from it…

Sometimes getting leaner actually moves the goalposts.

What once looked lean suddenly becomes ‘normal’

And anything softer than that can start to feel like you’re going backwards and regressing!

As a coach, part of me feels like I shouldn’t struggle with this stuff. But trust me I do!

I understand energy balance.

I understand fluctuations in bodyweight.

I understand that gaining five pounds doesn’t mean I’ve suddenly gained five pounds of body fat.

I understand that being healthier, happier and better fuelled is considerably more important than maintaining an arbitrary number on a set of scales.

I KNOW all of that.

But knowing something and emotionally accepting it are two completely different things.

And I think it’s important I’m honest about that.

Because I spend a lot of my time telling clients that the goal isn’t to occupy the smallest body possible.

It’s to build a body and a lifestyle that actually improves your life.

Sometimes I need to remind myself of exactly the same thing.

Being lean can feel good. Of course it can.

But so can sleeping properly.

Having energy.

Eating out without guilt.

Training hard.

Being present with people.

And not allowing a number on the scales to dictate how you feel about yourself that day.

So right now, I’m learning to become comfortable with being a little heavier.

Not because I’ve “let myself go”.

Quite the opposite…

Because perhaps progress for me at this point isn’t getting leaner.

It’s learning that I don’t always need to be.

Understanding the Process: Beyond the Transformation 😎

As a coach, my journey began with sharing personal wisdom and experiences, particularly in fitness and performance, inspired by my youth football career.

Initially, my focus was on training and nutrition.

However, as I gained experience, I realised that personal transformation is not just about aesthetics but understanding and changing habits, routines, and perceptions.

In my coaching practice, I work tirelessly to highlight the process of transformation, emphasising the importance of understanding you as the individual and your environment.

This involves assessing how your current situation, environment, network and routines impact your health and wellbeing.

Fitness is not solely defined by physical appearance; it’s about overall health and happiness in my opinion.

I encourage my clients to prioritise their health and wellbeing, regardless of their current fitness level.

It’s important to recognise that everyone’s journey is unique and that progress can, and often will, vary.

I constantly remind clients (some more than others 😆) to be patient and persistent, as true transformation takes time and effort.

Ultimately, my goal, as a coach, is to help clients become a better version of themselves, both physically and mentally.

This involves setting personal goals and targets, replacing motivation with discipline, and staying committed to the process.

Remember, success is not about reaching a specific destination but about continuously striving to improve and stay true to yourself ☺️

What a weekend!!! 🕺 🪩 🍸 😎

I’ve seen Calvin Harris before at Transmit and thought he was decent. Truth be told I didn’t think anyone would match the energy of James Hype.

But last night…

Well that went straight to Number 1 spot of gigs I’ve been too.

Hampden was absolutely rocking!!!

Oh and I bumped into The Prodigal Son Charlie Mulgrew - too. What a handsome bastard he is😎🍀

Thanks again for the invite Jamie, what a night, what a weekend 🙌🏼

Tuesday - Leg Day A

With Jamie off having had surgery, and Lynn still away in Thailand I was able to train early doors and get legs ticked off.

Now I am not going to say training before 5am is optimal, nor is it likely going to give you peak performance or PBs. However if your days are busy, and you need to find the time - you make it happen!
