Everywhere I look I see more Pilates Studios opening.
Many look very similar. Lovely aesthetics, matching gym gear, iced drinks, neutral colours. But how do you know which one to go to? How do you know if you are at a good one?
Some of the things I would look out for or ask about....
✔️ What qualifications do the instructors have? Many courses now are short and not very in depth. If your instructor has simply learned a routine then you are very quickly going to get a bit bored and they probably aren't going to be able to help you if you need any modifications.
Our instructors all have Level 3 in Pilates instruction and 4 have an allied health professional degree.
✔️ Does the instructor pay any attention to the participants? A good Pilates class should include some correction and the instructor should be walking about, not simply getting their own workout done.
Our instructors will take care to notice their participants and often attend classes as a participant themselves.
✔️ Is there good customer care? Yes, it all looks very slick but do the instructors get to know you, ask for feedback, answer queries, and make reasonable modifications for you?
We love that we know our customers well here. We know about mew grandchildren, weddings, illness, and bereavement. We are interested in you.
✔️ What health and safety protocols do they have in place? Every studio should have thorough fire, first aid, risk assessment and security measures. Sometimes profit is put above safety.
We have everything we need here and prioritise our customer and staff's safety.
✔️ Is there consideration for you as an individual? Maybe that means someone welcomes you, makes you feel really comfortable, offers adjustments for health or joint concerns. A Pilates workout is for every body and every body should be able to carry out the principles at each class, even with limitations.
We are great at modifying for health and joint conditions. We have had so many customers here before and after surgery, after ill health, as they age, and before and after birth.
So what do you think? Any you would add?
