Summer is here – are you ready? ☀️

Warmer weather can bring a range of common health issues, from sunburn and hay fever to insect bites and travel sickness 🌍

Simple steps can help you stay safe and well this summer 👍

☀️ Protect your skin by:
• using sunscreen with at least SPF 30
• reapplying regularly
• spending time in the shade during the hottest part of the day
• wearing suitable clothing and sunglasses 😎

Even on cloudy days, UV rays can still damage your skin, so sun protection is important throughout the summer months 💙

If you need advice on managing summer symptoms such as hay fever, insect bites, stings or travel sickness, your pharmacist can help 💊

Stay safe, stay well and enjoy your summer 🌴

Antibiotics are powerful medicines – but they don’t work for everything 💊

Antibiotic resistance happens when bacteria change and become resistant to the antibiotics used to treat them. This means infections can become harder to treat, last longer, and in some cases become more serious ⚠️

One of the biggest causes of antibiotic resistance is using antibiotics when they aren’t needed, such as for colds and flu, which are caused by viruses – not bacteria ❌

To help keep antibiotics working:
• Only take them if prescribed by a healthcare professional
• Always complete the full course
• Never share antibiotics or use leftovers

Antibiotic resistance is a growing global health concern, and we all have a role to play in protecting these important medicines for the future 🌍

Looking after your baby or toddler’s teeth starts earlier than you might think 💙

You should begin brushing your child’s teeth as soon as their first milk tooth appears. This helps build a healthy routine and protects their teeth from decay 👍

For babies and toddlers up to age 3:
• Brush twice a day – last thing at night and once more during the day
• Use a smear of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice) with at least 1,000ppm fluoride
• Gently brush all teeth and gums, even if it’s just a little at first 🪥

For children aged 3–6:
• Use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste
• Help them brush until they’re confident (usually around age 7)
• Encourage them to spit out toothpaste and not swallow it 👍

It’s also important to limit sugary foods and drinks, as these can lead to tooth decay. Water and milk are the best choices for healthy teeth 🥛

Starting good habits early can make a big difference to your child’s oral health as they grow 💫

Men’s Health Week is a great time to learn more about cancers that only affect men 💙

Some cancers specifically affect men, including prostate, testicular and pe**le cancer. These cancers develop in parts of the male reproductive system and can affect people at different stages of life 👨‍⚕️

For example:
• Prostate cancer starts in the prostate gland and is the most common cancer in men in the UK
• Testicular cancer often affects younger men and may present as a lump or swelling
• Pe**le cancer is rare but can develop on or under the fo****in

Treatments can vary depending on the type and stage of cancer, but may include surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, with support available throughout 💙

It’s important to know your body and speak to a healthcare professional if something doesn’t feel right. Early detection can make a big difference 👍

This message is inclusive of trans women and non-binary people (assigned male at birth), who can also be affected by these cancers and should feel supported to seek advice 💙

Bladder cancer is one of the most common cancers, and recognising the signs early can make a real difference to outcomes. The most common symptom is blood in your p*e, even if it only happens once or is not painful, and it should always be checked by a GP.

Other symptoms to look out for include:
• Pain, burning or stinging when passing urine 💧⚠️
• Needing to p*e more often or urgently 🚽⏱️
• Repeated urinary infections 🔁🩺
• Pain in the lower tummy or back 🤕✨
• Feeling very tired or losing weight without trying 💙📉

These symptoms are often caused by other conditions, but it’s important not to ignore them. Getting checked early can lead to earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment.
