Has Summer knocked you off course?

The version of summer we imagined in April looked quite different, didn't it. Long evenings, easy meals, time to finally get on top of things. A relaxed, sun-drenched version of ourselves who somehow sleeps better, eats well, and moves more because, well - it's summer.
.. and then July arrives. The kids are off school and the routine has gone with them. Social plans multiply. The evenings are long but somehow you're still tired. The barbecues are fun but they're relentless. It's too hot to cook, too hot to sleep, and every occasion seems to come with a drink in hand. Everyone seems to be on holiday, maybe you even have time booked off work, but you don't feel particularly restored.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. Summer is genuinely disruptive.

This article really struck a chord with me.

For too long, we've framed healthy eating and obesity as matters of personal responsibility. However, when healthier food is often more expensive, less accessible, or simply harder to choose, it's clear that the issue is much bigger than individual willpower.

Our food choices are shaped by the environments we live in, the policies that influence what's available, and the wider food system. If we're serious about improving public health and reducing health inequalities, we need to move beyond blaming individuals and start creating food environments that make healthier choices easier for everyone.

This article makes a compelling case for taking a systems approach, and I think it's well worth a read.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Do we focus too much on personal responsibility and not enough on the systems that shape our choices?

By Izabella Natrins, CEO, UK & International Health Coaching Association (UKIHCA) Recent discussions about obesity have increasingly moved beyond the outdated narrative of ‘personal responsibility’ alone. A compelling example came in Professor Susan Jebb's recent interview on BBC Radio 4's The F...

You might not feel stressed… but your habits say otherwise 🫤

Most people think they’d know if they were stressed. They imagine feeling overwhelmed, anxious or under pressure. The obvious stuff. The kind of stress that makes you want to run away to a spa hotel and never come back. But that’s only one version of stress.

The more common version is much more subtle, and it slips into your day, blends into your routines, and disguises itself as “just life being busy”. It’s highly likely you don’t even feel stressed. I’m betting your habits are telling a different story...

A little reminder from this busy bee… 🐝🌿

She’s not rushing.
She’s not trying to do everything at once.
She’s just quietly collecting what she needs, even with the breeze doing its thing around her.

I think there’s a lovely lesson in that for us in midlife.

Looking after your health doesn’t have to mean a huge overhaul, being “perfect”, or trying to do all the things at once.

Sometimes it’s simply about coming back to the basics and gathering the things that help you feel well… moving your body, eating foods that nourish you, getting outside, resting, building strength, taking a breath, and being a bit kinder to yourself along the way.

Little by little, those small things add up. They help you feel stronger, steadier, and more like yourself again.

Midlife wellbeing doesn’t have to be all or nothing. It can be gentle, consistent, and built in a way that actually fits your life 💛

What’s one small thing that helps you feel more like you? 💬

With the extreme heat we’ve been experiencing lately, a lighter lunch just feels right. ☀️🥗

Today’s was a big bowl of mixed greens, peppers, tomatoes, cottage cheese, a crunchy seed mix, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic.

As a postmenopausal woman, I’ve learned that simple meals like this can be incredibly nourishing without feeling heavy.

🍃 Protein from cottage cheese helps support muscle maintenance and keeps me satisfied longer.

🍃 Healthy fats from EVOO support heart health and help the body absorb important nutrients.

🍃 Seeds add fibre, minerals, and a delicious crunch.

🍃 Colorful vegetables provide antioxidants and nutrients that support overall wellness.

Nothing complicated. No special diet. Just real food that tastes great, keeps me energised, and feels especially refreshing on a hot summer day.

What’s your favorite go-to meal when the temperatures climb and you want something light, healthy, and satisfying? 💬👇🏼

Are you post-menopause and concerned about your bone health?

It's not too late to take some action. Read my blog about some simple things you can do to protect your bone density for the long term.

Is this something that worries you? What are you already doing now to protect your bones for the future? 💬

If someone had told me years ago that a few minutes of jumping around could become one of the most powerful things women can do for their health after menopause, I probably would have laughed. But the research is actually incredibly compelling. As we move through perimenopause and postmenopause, our....
