World Wellbeing Week – Take Notice

Trauma can affect how connected we feel to the present moment. When we're stressed, overwhelmed, or reminded of difficult experiences, it can be hard to focus on what is happening right here and now.

Taking notice is about gently bringing our attention back to the present. It doesn't mean ignoring challenges, difficult feelings, or situations that need our attention. Instead, it can help us become more aware of our surroundings and reconnect with the here and now.

One way to do this is through grounding:

⭐ Notice 5 things you can see
⭐4 things you can feel
⭐3 things you can hear
⭐ 2 things you can smell
⭐1 thing you can taste

You don't need to do it perfectly. Even taking a few moments to pause and notice what is around you can be a helpful wellbeing practice.

Taking notice won't change what has happened, but it can help us reconnect with where we are now.

Time for yoga 🧘🏽 🧡 Yoga is one of the simplest ways to support your nervous system. 🧘‍♀️💚

Slow, mindful movement combined with steady breathing helps signal to our body that we’re safe, encouraging us to shift from “survival mode” into a calmer, more regulated state. It can reduce stress, ease muscle tension, improve sleep, and help us reconnect with ourselves.

It doesn’t have to be perfect or complicated, even a few minutes can make a difference.

What’s your favourite yoga pose? 😊 Mine are Warrior (it makes me feel strong and grounded 💪) and Happy Baby (it always helps me release tension and makes me smile! 😄).

I’d love to hear yours! 🩵🧘‍♂️ Neilson Holidays

The last 2 times I completed the Three Peaks, in my 30s and 40s, I swore I’d never do it again!!Yet this time, in my 50’s I felt stronger than ever. No blisters, energy left in the tank, and I even ran most of the final mile back to Horton. It was a wonderful reminder that age doesn’t always define what’s possible😅. Sometimes we’re capable of far more than we think.

one of the nicest things about this story isn’t just that I completed the Three Peaks, it’s that I experienced the full range of it. The brutal wind on Pen-y-Ghent, the cloud and rain on Whernside, the views opening up towards Ingleborough, then finishing in sunshine feeling strong and energised.
It’s almost a perfect metaphor for life and therapy: And if you’ve with me you know I love a metaphor 👍🏼😅sometimes you push through the bit where you can barely see what’s ahead, and eventually the clouds lift and you realise you’re stronger than you thought.

My Three Peaks weekend feels a bit like that:

* The storm on Pen-y-Ghent.
* The wind tunnel of Whernside.
* The clouds eventually lifting.
* The views appearing.
* The sunshine on the final miles.
* Finishing stronger than expected.

A pretty good metaphor for life, really. ❤️⛰️

🎤 Did you know that celebrities including Miley Cyrus, Prince Harry, Sandra Bullock and Jameela Jamil have all spoken publicly about the positive impact EMDR therapy has had on their lives?

Miley Cyrus recently shared that EMDR "saved my life" and helped her overcome debilitating stage fright. Prince Harry has openly discussed using EMDR to process grief and trauma, while Sandra Bullock has credited EMDR with helping her recover following a traumatic home invasion.

Whilst EMDR is best known as a treatment for trauma and PTSD, it is also used to help people struggling with anxiety, grief, phobias, performance anxiety and other distressing life experiences.

The growing number of public figures sharing their experiences is helping to reduce stigma and raise awareness of effective trauma treatment.
