Could medical acupuncture help with your pain? 📍

Medical acupuncture is one of the treatment options I offer at 202 Performance and can be used alongside physiotherapy to help manage pain and support your rehabilitation.

It involves the use of very fine needles, with treatment tailored to your individual symptoms and what we find during your assessment.

So, how can I help?

Your first session starts with a thorough physiotherapy assessment to understand your symptoms, how they’re affecting you and what may be contributing to the problem.

If appropriate, medical acupuncture can then form part of your treatment plan and may be considered for problems such as:

• Back and neck pain
• Muscular pain and tightness
• Certain joint and tendon problems
• Sports and training-related injuries
• Persistent pain

Importantly, I don’t view acupuncture as a standalone quick fix.

Where appropriate, I’ll use it alongside your wider physiotherapy treatment, which may include:

• Exercise rehabilitation and strengthening
• Hands-on treatment
• Mobility work
• Advice and activity management
• A progressive plan to get you back to the activities that matter to you

Never had acupuncture before?

It’s completely understandable to be a little apprehensive about the needles. They’re extremely fine, and I’ll explain the treatment and what to expect before we start.

If you’re struggling with pain or an injury and would like to know whether medical acupuncture could be suitable for you, get in touch.

Struggling with knee pain? Here’s how physiotherapy can help. 🦵

Knee pain can affect everything from walking and using the stairs to running, training and playing sport.

And while it can be tempting to simply rest and hope it settles, there are lots of different reasons a knee can become painful — so understanding what’s causing your symptoms is an important first step.

That’s where I can help.

Your first session starts with a thorough assessment of your knee, as well as looking at your movement, strength and the activities that are causing you problems.

From there, we’ll build a treatment plan specifically around you and what you want to get back to.

Depending on what we find, this may include:

• Hands-on treatment to help manage symptoms and improve movement
• Targeted strengthening for the muscles supporting your knee
• Mobility exercises where restricted movement is contributing
• Taping where appropriate to help manage symptoms and keep you active
• Medical acupuncture, which I can offer where appropriate as an additional option for managing pain
• Load and activity management so you know what you can keep doing while your knee recovers
• Progressive rehabilitation to prepare your knee for the demands of running, the gym or your chosen sport

Whether your knee pain has gradually developed, started after an injury or simply isn’t improving, the goal is to work out what’s contributing to it and give you a clear plan forward.

If knee pain is stopping you doing the things you enjoy, get in touch and let’s see how I can help.

Struggling with sciatica? Here’s how physiotherapy can help.

Sciatica can make everyday things like sitting, driving, sleeping, walking or exercising uncomfortable — and it can be frustrating trying to work out what you should and shouldn’t be doing.

That’s where I can help.

Your first session starts with a thorough assessment to understand your symptoms, how they’re affecting you and what may be contributing to them.

From there, we’ll build a treatment plan specifically around you. Depending on what we find, this may include:

• Hands-on treatment to help reduce pain and improve movement
• Targeted exercises to get you moving more comfortably
• Strengthening to gradually build your back and body’s capacity
• Advice and reassurance around what you can safely keep doing
• A clear progression plan to get you back to work, the gym, sport or simply normal day-to-day life

There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment for sciatica. The aim is to understand what’s driving your symptoms and give you a clear plan forward.

If leg pain, pins and needles or sciatica is stopping you doing the things you enjoy, get in touch and let’s see how I can help.

PLANTAR FASCIITIS
How can physiotherapy help?

Struggling with heel pain or plantar fasciitis? Here’s how physiotherapy can help.

That sharp pain under your heel when you take your first few steps in the morning — or when you stand up after sitting for a while — is a common symptom of plantar fasciitis (plantar fasciopathy).

It can make walking, running, exercising or even getting through a day at work uncomfortable.

That’s where I can help.

Your first session starts with a thorough assessment. Rather than simply treating where it hurts, we’ll look at what may be contributing to the problem — including your foot and ankle movement, strength, activity levels, training and how your symptoms behave.

From there, we’ll build a treatment plan around you. Depending on what we find, this may include:

• Targeted exercises to gradually increase the amount of load your foot can tolerate
• Calf and foot strengthening to improve strength and capacity
• Mobility work where restricted movement may be contributing
• Hands-on treatment to help manage symptoms and improve movement
• Taping where appropriate to help reduce symptoms while you stay active
• Advice on footwear, activity and training load to help you manage the problem without unnecessarily stopping everything you enjoy
• A progressive return to running or sport if that’s your goal

Plantar heel pain can be stubborn, particularly if you’ve been struggling with it for a while. The aim isn’t just to temporarily settle the pain — it’s to work out what’s contributing to it and gradually build your foot’s ability to tolerate the activities you want to do.

If heel pain is making those first few steps in the morning uncomfortable or stopping you from walking, exercising or running, get in touch and let’s see how I can help.

Do you have an ACL injury? or know someone who has had one in the past? Follow this link to a short article I have written providing more information surrounding ACL injuries and how they are diagnosed and treated.

One of the most common knee injuries is a sprain or tear to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Athletes who participate in multi directional sports such as football, rugby, basketball and netball are more at risk of an injury to the ACL. If you injure your ACL you may require surgery to regain fu...
