Every day, our drinks trolley makes its way around the Inpatient Unit, offering patients a choice of refreshments, from a cup of tea or soft drink to a glass of wine, beer, or a favourite tipple.

It may seem like a small thing, but these moments can mean so much.

At the hospice, we know our patients are so much more than their illness. That's why we focus on the things that bring joy, choice and normality, helping people continue to enjoy the simple pleasures that make life meaningful.

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who help make these moments possible for our patients 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Seahorse Project creative remembrance event for children. They could choose to draw pictures, write postcards or decorate photo frames in memory of a loved one. You can see some of them enjoying the afternoon here, as well as a collage of their wonderful artwork.

The free event was an opportunity for young people to reflect on and remember someone special to them, and connect with others who may have had similar experiences.

The Seahorse Project is our bereavement counselling support for any bereaved child aged 6-18 in our catchment area. For more information, visit stwhospice.org/seahorse

Look what's happening in the garden. The team are busy creating drought resistant, low maintenance areas in the Courtyard Garden to help counteract the recent spell of dry weather.

They are taking inspiration from the Mediterranean when it comes to planting, and including plenty of herbs to create a sensory element to the garden.

The Courtyard Garden is one of the two gardens at the hospice reserved for patients. All rooms on our Inpatient Unit have direct access to the Courtyard or Orchard Gardens, with enough space for beds to be taken straight out if a patient wishes.

Thank you to Hailsham Ropemakers WI for kindly donating £120 after being given a tour of the hospice gardens by Head Gardener, Kev. Pictured is Kev with some of the WI members who joined him over two days of tours. The money will go towards the purchase of plants for a new drought tolerant garden which our team is developing in The Courtyard Garden.

The Seaford Striders RC and Martello Rotary Seaford have raised a wonderful £800 for the hospice after the Seaford Martello Half Marathon in April.

It was a challenging route across the South Downs footpaths, towards Firle Beacon and finishing along the Seaford seafront promenade, with over 250 participants taking part.

Surplus funds raised were kindly split between St Wilfrid’s and Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.

A huge thank you to everyone at Seaford Striders and Martello Rotary Seaford 👏

"When we go to the hospice, we always place a kiss on our fingers and then to mum's leaf on the Memory Tree. It makes us feel close to her.

"Before we got mum's leaf, we would read all of the tributes on the tree. It was her who said that she would like one. Knowing someone will be reading mum's name is heart warming - it feels like it keeps her memory alive somehow."

By paying monthly for a gold leaf on our Memory Tree, the Byers family helps ensure other families receive compassionate hospice care, all while keeping Lorraine's memory alive.

If you would like to remember someone special with a tribute on our Memory Tree, options start from £8.34 a month.

Meet Fi.
A new, optional grief support app developed with bereavement teams at St Michael's Hospice and St Wilfrid's Hospice, and specialist app developer Whitelabel.

Fi offers a private space to talk about grief, check in with how you're feeling, and access AI-powered support informed by hospice bereavement expertise.

We're inviting people to try Fi during its pilot phase.

It's free to use during testing, completely optional, and designed to sit alongside existing bereavement support, not replace it. Taking part is entirely voluntary, and you can still access hospice bereavement services if you test the app.

We're testing Fi to explore whether it could become another way of making bereavement support more accessible to people who need it.
