Brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice a day remains non-negotiable. So is cleaning between teeth, where appropriate.
But brushing takes a few minutes. The mouth has to look after itself for the rest of the day.
That longer window is shaped by saliva, dry mouth, reflux, diet, va**ng or smoking, stress, alcohol, orthodontics, medication and how often we expose teeth to sugar and acid.
The principle is not complicated:
- Eat rather than graze.
- Do not sip acidic or sweet drinks for hours.
- Take bleeding gums seriously.
- Treat dry mouth as something worth discussing with your dental team.
- Aim for balance, not a scorched-earth war on every bacterium in the mouth.
