How to waste money on training - opinion from the training providers!

Book your staff straight on to a course that YOU think they need. Don't analyse the skills gaps, just take a guess.

Don't identify their challenges, I'm sure you know them.

Don't figure out the best environment for them to learn in, everybody is the same.

A head of HR told me that her biggest concern was that nobody in her team was confident enough to take on the role of First Aider.

'Everyone said no'
'They all said they didn't have the confidence'

We can soon solve that. Our Emergency First Aid course not only gives you the skill set, but it mainly focuses on giving them the confidence they need to put those skills into practice.

The result - we got one person on the course.
They returned to work full to the brim with confidence.
One month later - 3 people signed up from the same company.
They're now one of my favourite places to visit.

August is often really quiet for us - and that's ok.

One of the biggest problems is assuming that any time away from the wheel counts as rest. It doesn’t.

Loading, paperwork, vehicle checks and other work still count as duty. A genuine rest period means you are not working and are free to use the time as you choose.

Other common mistakes include recording the wrong tachograph mode, splitting daily rest incorrectly and forgetting the rules around reduced weekly rest.

The details can get confusing, especially when shifts and duties change.

Training shouldn't stop when the session ends.

Reinforce learning with refreshers, practical application or quick check-ins to keep skills sharp and confidence high.

If your staff lose their confidence, they'll lose their skill set.

Those first few minutes are hugely important and your actions can make a real difference.

As well as doing the important first few steps:
- call for help
- carry out CPR
- use an AED
- help someone who is choking or bleeding

The main skill you need is the ability to respond calmly.

FIrst Aid training is not just about getting a certificate.

It is about giving you confidence to act when it really matters. That's half the course with us, confidence building as well as skill set.

If there is one course I'm passionate about, it's Moving and Handling of People in Care Homes.

Something as simple as a short transfer could easily result in a resident bruised and a staff member off work with a back injury.

No one means for it to happen.

They're just doing their best but they haven't been trained properly.

In care homes, every movement matters.
