Yesterday, Bryce Murphy, Operations Director at Sussex Audiology Centre, had the pleasure of attending a public talk at Willingdon Park Manor on Living with Dementia, representing both and the .healthcare.network.
What an incredibly insightful afternoon.
The session explored a number of powerful concepts including the Bookshelf Theory, VERA communication model, The Senses Framework, Feelings Matter Most, Playlist for Life and Talking Mats - all highlighting the importance of compassion, communication and truly person-centred dementia care.
One of the biggest takeaways was that while memories may fade, feelings often remain, making every interaction we have with someone living with dementia incredibly important.
It was also inspiring to see the genuine warmth, kindness and respect shown by every member of the team towards the Hallmark residents. The culture they’ve created is something to be incredibly proud of, and the residents are clearly at the heart of everything they do.
A huge thank you to everyone at Willingdon Park Manor for such a welcoming, educational and inspiring afternoon. As healthcare professionals, there’s always something we can learn from one another, and this was a fantastic reminder of the value of collaboration across health and social care.
