🖐🏻 Goodbye fists. Hello open hands. 🖐🏻
This wonderful family have been working with Albert *daily* on his hand function and the foundation for this ➡️ PRIMITIVE REFLEX INTEGRATION
✨ Palmar Grasp Reflex ✨
How it works: When you stroke the palm of an infant’s hand, their fingers instantly flex and curl around the stimulus (like a finger or an object) in a tight grip.
Timeline: Appears around 16 to 28 weeks of gestation and ‘integrates’ by 2 to 6 months of age.
Function: Lays the foundation for the ability to voluntarily grasp, hold, and eventually manipulate objects.
When you address the ROOT CAUSE of the dysfunction in the nervous system strategies and compensations are no longer need.
👨🏼🦽For those with disabilities this looks like:
Therapists spend years trying to overcome this reflex including giving special equipment, grips, toys and so on. Splints are prescribed to try and ‘correct’ or slow down the structural impairments that come from constant fi***ng. Botox, a neurotoxin, is sometimes injected for the most severe cases.
Who needs to tell their OT/PT about this? 👀

📚For children in schools this looks like:
😵💫 Poor concentration on written tasks; avoidance of writing; difficulty demonstrating knowledge on paper despite oral ability
😣 Frustration with fine motor tasks; avoidance of writing/drawing; low self-esteem around handwriting
✏️ Immature pencil grip (fi**ed or palmar grip); poor scissor skills; difficulty with buttons/zips/shoelaces; pressing too hard when writing; messy or effortful handwriting/hand fatigue; poor letter formation
