It's nearly a new month into a new year, so I have decided to study some of the old languages that my ancestors once spoke. I've been using DuoLingo for years to brush up on the French that I studied for 6 years in school long ago, but now I am also deep into Spanish, with an occasional foray into German, Italian, Gaelic and High Valyrian, just for fun. đŸ˜‚

I'm baa-ack! We are in the midst of some home renovation projects that are taking all my time, ( this castle is not going to fix itself! Good serfs are heard to find) but I am popping in for a brief post.

Yesterday was my birthday which coincides perfectly with the Scottish/Viking fire festival in Shetland known as Up Helly Aa!

Up there in the far Northern Islands where my ancestors once ruled, you've got to do something to warm yourself up this time of year, so why not, like I did yesterday on my birthday, light some torches, burn some ships and parade down the streets in full Viking battle regalia?
