Today is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day. Here's what you should know.

Spinal cord injury affects more people than many healthcare professionals realise. Updated 2025 figures show 4,700 people are injured or diagnosed with SCI annually—approximately one person every two hours. The total UK SCI population is now estimated at over 105,000.

Each case brings complex needs: mobility, pain, bowel and bladder management, cognition, mood, vocational potential, and social integration. Recovery isn't simply about regaining movement—it's about rebuilding life with purpose and independence.

What effective rehabilitation addresses:

• Neurophysiological recovery and movement optimisation

• Functional independence in activities of daily living

• Psychological adjustment and emotional wellbeing

• Vocational rehabilitation and return to work (where appropriate)

• Accessible equipment, housing, and environmental modifications

• Family and caregiver support

Why early, specialist intervention matters: Timely access to specialist rehabilitation can meaningfully improve outcomes for people with SCI. Evidence-based physiotherapy, neuropsychology, and occupational therapy—delivered flexibly and close to home—help people rebuild independence and quality of life.

If you're involved in rehabilitation, medico-legal assessment, or support services for people with SCI, understanding the full scope of their needs is crucial.

🎉 A Wonderful Evening Supporting Spinal Injuries Scotland 🎉

Our team at Neurotherapy Services had the pleasure of attending the 2025 Spinal Injuries Scotland Winter Dinner Dance, proudly sponsored by Digby Brown Solicitors.

Hosted by the ever-brilliant Des Clarke, the evening was filled with laughter, inspiration, and generosity.

It was fantastic to see Grado there, sharing his incredible experience with the hand cycle challenge—a true testament to resilience and determination.

Over the years, this event has raised an outstanding amount of money for Spinal Injuries Scotland, a charity doing vital work to support individuals and families affected by spinal injuries. The continued generosity of everyone involved is truly amazing.

Thank you to all who made the night so special. We’re proud to support such an important cause and look forward to joining you all again next year!
