Welcome to Rachel, our new North East regional rep 👏🏼🎉
“Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Bird and I am delighted to be appointed as the BAOS North East Regional Representative.
Since graduating, I have completed further training in Oral Medicine, Sedation and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I have also worked as a teaching fellow in Newcastle Dental Hospital, teaching Oral Surgery to undergraduates and completed a PG Cert in Clinical Research.
I currently work as a Specialty Doctor working in Darlington Memorial Hospital. On a typical day for me here, I carry out two week wait and routine consultations and treat patients under local anaesthetic, sedation and general anaesthetic for both soft and hard tissue surgery.
I am also part of the Head and Neck MDT, where I liaise with colleagues in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and present patients that I have worked up with a cancer diagnosis. I also arrange to carry out extractions prior to their radiotherapy treatment. I work closely alongside our ENT colleagues for the same reason and for patients with sinus issues requiring a joint approach to surgery.
My interests outside of work including travelling, trying new food, and gardening!
