World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanise action on themes related to breastfeeding.
Did you know? Making your workplace parent-friendly can lead to many benefits for employers such as increased productivity and retention.
Prioritising Safety for New and Expectant Mothers
The Health and Safety Dept emphasises that, in addition to the return-to-work process, a New and Expectant Mothers Risk Assessment should take place to assure both employer and employee that work environments and processes do not pose risks to the new parent or their child. The most common risk issues include chemical use, dust, vibration, and noise exposure. There can also be issues with excessive temperatures and working from height during pregnancy stages.
Our sister company, the HR Dept, reminds employers that all those returning to work after a period of absence should undergo a return process which considers reasonable adjustments around their condition. This can include adjusted hours, working from home, or workplace adjustments as appropriate for the employee and company. Those choosing to breastfeed following the birth of a child can be supported with the provision of suitable environments in which to expel and safely store breast milk.
For further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at the HR Dept and H&S Dept respectively.
