We spoke a while ago about how not ALL heel/arch pain is Plantar Fasciitis & that a proper podiatry assessment will give an accurate diagnosis!

Well…this patient took our advice & it turns out…it was Plantar Fasciitis 😂

It’s such a common condition that we see in clinic, and we’re pretty great at treating it!

Pain on the top of your foot? It might be your shoes… but it might not be. It might be arthritis…but it might not be.

Helpful, right? 😂

Pain in this area can have several possible causes, including irritated tendons, midfoot arthritis, a stress injury, changes in how your foot moves or simply doing too much too soon.

It may also come with swelling, tenderness or discomfort when walking, exercising or wearing shoes.

And that’s exactly why guessing, and treating it based on something you found online, doesn’t always get you very far. ❌

At Abbeyhill Footcare, we’ll assess your symptoms, look at how your foot is moving and work out what’s actually causing the problem.

From there, your treatment plan may include rehabilitation exercises, footwear advice, orthotics, pressure reduction or further investigation where needed.

That small, niggling pain you’ve got in your arches or your knee? Yeah, our advice is get that looked at sooner rather than later!

Because small problems have a habit of becoming much bigger ones when they’re ignored.

That niggling pain, stubborn hard skin, minor nail issue or little change in the way you’re walking might not feel urgent right now. But leaving it to fester can mean more pain, more disruption and, often, more treatment further down the line.

Sometimes, catching a problem early means you only need one podiatry appointment, a clear diagnosis and some simple homecare advice.

Leave it too long, and you could be looking at several appointments and a more complex recovery process!

We’re not saying every ache or ni**le is something serious. But if something is bothering you, getting it checked early can save you time, money and discomfort in the long run.

It’s time to get honest!

Podiatry is an incredibly skilled profession within itself, but the training, up-skilling & investment into our craft never stops!

That’s the case here at Abbeyhill Footcare anyway.

So it can be a bit disheartening when patient tell us we’re too expensive because they’ve found the same service MUCH cheaper.

So why is it sometimes £100 cheaper for a similar treatment or diagnosis down the road? 🤔

We’ll tell you honestly that it’s not because we’re choosing to charge more for the sake of it. It’s because we’ve invested tens of thousands of pounds into creating the best clinical environment possible, with the best equipment, whilst also spending money on certifications and accreditations to ensure we’re providing the best standard of care.

And, honestly, if a clinic is THAT much cheaper - you need to ask yourself why that might be?

Well, you can! But you might not feel the benefit compared to having something custom made for you & your needs!

Our custom made orthotics are created specifically for your feet, your movement and the way your body handles pressure when you walk or run!

They can help to:
🔸 Take pressure off sore or overloaded areas
🔹Improve how your feet, ankles and legs work together
🔸Support better movement and comfort
🔹Reduce the risk of the same pain or injury coming back

The key is making sure they’re actually right for you. Not everyone needs orthotics, and off-the-shelf insoles aren’t always the answer either!

Every job has its perk! ⭐️

Ours is being able to rehab our own injuries on our lunch break 👀

Whether it’s a running ni**le, an aching heel or something that’s been aggravated in the gym, we’re often testing our own knowledge on ourselves!

We’re all active people here at Abbeyhill Footcare - with our own families, social lives & hobbies we want to be able to enjoy!

So we understand first hand how frustrating an injury can be, how important the right diagnosis is and why rehab needs to fit around real life ✅

Sore feet when you first get out of bed? 😖

Plantar fasciitis is ONE of the most common causes of morning heel or arch pain, but it isn’t the only possibility.

Foot pain can come from several different structures and conditions, and many of them can feel very similar.

That means self-diagnosing can easily lead to self-treating the wrong problem ❌

🔸You try stretches you found online
🔹You buy new insoles
🔸You rest it for a few days
🔹Nothing changes… so you try something else.

Before long, you’re stuck in a frustrating cycle while the original problem continues. At best you’re wasting your time - but you may also be making the problem worse

A podiatry assessment allows us to look at where the pain is coming from, what may be aggravating it and which treatment approach is most appropriate for you.

Sometimes you may need a structured treatment plan. Other times, we may simply send you away with clearer information and the right advice to manage it yourself.

Either way, you’ll be treating the problem you actually have and not the one Google or ChatGPT suggested
