Our role is to make South Asian women active citizens living

The primary aim of NKS is to alleviate deprivation and isolation experienced by South Asian women and their families living in Edinburgh and to promote positive health and well-being among them.

🥕🌍 NKS Men’s Group – Cooking Up a Sustainable Future! 👨‍🍳
On 22 October, Mr Azhar Rai led an engaging leftover cookery session, sharing practical tips on reducing food waste through a presentation and cooking demonstration.

Participants explored creative ways to use FareShare vegetables, plan meals, store food safely and compost vegetable peels. 🥦♻️
Supported by the CAF team, the session encouraged confidence, peer learning and sustainable food habits to help reduce carbon emissions.

20.10.2026, At NKS, we had a wonderful mood board creation session delivered by Sana Ilyas from Edinburgh Women’s Aid. Using recycled materials, the women created unique mood boards that reflected their individuality, personal styles, and aspirations.

The session encouraged creativity, self-expression, and confidence while giving them an opportunity to share ideas and learn from one another. Everyone felt happy and proud of what they had achieved.

🎉 NKS Food Hygiene Training – A Fantastic Achievement! 🥳

On 12–13 October 2026, our participants took part in a two-day Food Hygiene Training course delivered by Sue O’Neil from Cyrenians.

The course covered essential food hygiene principles, with day one focusing on key topics and day two providing a recap before the final assessment.

👏 We’re delighted to share that ALL attendees successfully passed the assessment! Everyone was thrilled with their achievement and is now looking forward to receiving their certificates.

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to Sue O’Neil and Cyrenians for delivering such an informative and valuable training experience.

A positive and rewarding two days, with great achievements all round! 🌟

✨ A Flourish of Creativity! 💍

On 21 October, the NKS Young Adult and Carers Group enjoyed a fantastic jewellery-making workshop with the Flourish Jewellery Project at North Edinburgh Arts. 🌟

A big thank you to our lovely jewellery artists, Lisa and Jess, for guiding us through the process step by step and ensuring everyone worked safely.

The group had a wonderful time learning new skills and creating their own copper cuff bangles, pendants and earrings. 🧡 It was a fun, creative and inspiring session, with everyone getting hands-on and exploring their artistic side!

Our jewellery will be completed at next week’s session, and we’re all looking forward to seeing the beautiful finished pieces! ✨

15 October 2026 – NKS Autism Group- Our NKS autism group visited Cha Sha. Everyone enjoyed playing Ludo, chatting and spending time together. They also enjoyed a cuppa and light bites at a newly opened café on Clerk Street, Edinburgh. It was a nice chance to relax and socialise.

They talked about our upcoming four-week jewellery-making sessions with Flourish Jewellery in South Edinburgh, starting next Wednesday.

✨ Ladies’ Blouse Cutting Session at NKS! ✨🪡

We had a wonderful and creative time at our Ladies’ Saree Blouse Cutting Session, held on 17th October 2026 at NKS! 💖

Our talented tutor, Munira Khanum, guided the attendees through the blouse-cutting process, explaining each step with great clarity and precision. 👗✂️

It was lovely to see everyone learn new skills, share ideas, and enjoy this hands-on sewing session together. A big thank you to Munira Khanum and all our enthusiastic participants for making the session such a success! 🌸🧵

🌿 Promoting Falls Prevention, Healthy Living & Independence! 💚

14.10.2026, We were delighted to welcome Jody, Care Manager from Caremark, who delivered an informative and engaging talk on falls prevention, exercise, balance, and healthy living.

The session highlighted how simple lifestyle changes can help older adults stay safe, active, healthy, and independent.

Key topics included:
✅ The importance of regular exercise to improve strength, balance, and mobility.
✅ Maintaining a healthy, balanced diet and staying hydrated.
✅ Wearing suitable footwear to reduce the risk of falls.
✅ Keeping our homes safe and free from potential hazards.
✅ Taking proactive steps to prevent falls and promote overall health and wellbeing.
It was wonderful to see our ladies showing such keen interest, actively engaging with Jody, and sharing their thoughts during the follow-up discussions. Their enthusiasm made the session even more meaningful!

We were also pleased to have Nitin Mahan, Managing Director, present for this informative session.

A big thank you to Jody and Caremark for sharing such valuable knowledge and helping us promote healthier, safer, and more independent living.

🧵✨ A lovely day at our C3R Stitching Class! | 07.10.2026 🪡💕
Wednesday, drop-in session, led by Nazma, focused on dress alterations and cutting. Working with cotton and velvet, the women practised cutting and stitching their own clothes. There was lots of excitement as some couldn’t wait to start their dress alterations! 🧵👗
It’s wonderful to see everyone develop new skills, share their experience, and grow in confidence with every stitch. 💗
Here’s to creativity, learning, and empowering women through practical skills! 🌸

08.09.2026CAF Men’s Group – Plastic Waste Awareness & Creative Reuse Session ♻️

NKS- Men’s Group took part in an engaging awareness session focused on plastic waste, recycling, and creative ways to reuse everyday plastic items.

Participants explored practical ideas for giving plastic waste a new purpose through DIY activities, including making planters and scoops from used plastic bottles. 🪴♻️

The session also included an open discussion where participants shared thoughts, ideas, and suggestions on reusing plastic waste creatively rather than simply throwing it away.

Tatheer Fatima, CAF Project Lead, also spoke with the group about the CAF activities they would be interested in joining in the future, noting their ideas and interests. Participants were also introduced to ways they could support and volunteer with future CAF activities, helping to build a stronger and more active community.

A great session filled with learning, creativity, participation, and ideas for positive action. 🌍💚
