Really glad that Stylist Magazine is talking about the confusion and upset that couple can experience in their relationship when they have a baby. Because it can be really confusing, and easy to feel stuck.

I’m afraid the article is behind a paywall, but if you can’t access it and want to know more what was discussed, get in touch and I can let you know.

Feeling a bit spoilt after an amazing weekend retreat with Barbara Annis | Women’s Fitness, Weight Loss & Nutrition Coach and Claire Braidwood at Ladyburn House | Luxury Country House Scotland.

A really brilliant and diverse bunch of women.

And it got me thinking again about how much we need to be with other people, other nervous systems, other minds. How we process things differently.

I always think that ‘talking therapy’ is a bit of a misnomer. Because it relies on nervous systems, on embodiment, as much as anything else. It’s not just what’s said, it’s about what is felt, in the presence of a supportive other.

I currently have availability for one more client on Tuesdays. I’m hoping to have good news about my new office soon, to meet in person 🤞but online is also available.

Why do I want to run a course for mothers who are feeling ‘lost’?

Because I understand what it feels like. To feel as though everything is ‘perfect’ on the surface but that something is missing. And not to know how to find it.

Often it’s something that js already inside us - we are just so out of touch with ourselves that it’s almost impossible to articulate, even to ourselves.

Doing the Artist’s Way is just one of the ways we can get more in touch with those parts of ourselves, which is why the ‘Bite’ course uses that framework.

It starts next Monday. If you want to know more, the link is in the bio. x

I’ve worked with so many women over the years who have told me that they have ‘lost’ themselves since becoming a mother. And it’s easy to see why. But much harder to know what to do about it. It can feel so scary not knowing how to change that.

I recently joined a group doing the Artist’s Way and found it so helpful to get me in touch with what might help me be more myself again. Which is why I’ve been wanting to run a pilot group with women who are feeling a bit lost too.

So it seems a wonderful synchronicity that Sarah Noon wanted to do something similar 😊 Which is why we’re running ‘Bite’ starting on the 21st September.

It’s going to be in person in Haddington (apologies to those of you who are a bit too far away, although maybe it will have an online group in the future) and if you want to know more/ are interested in joining, the link is in my bio.

Really chuffed to be part of the BACP campaign to help new parents feel less stigma around accessing good therapeutic support.

There’s often a lot of practical advice around becoming a new parent. But when the emotional and relational aspects aren’t discussed so much, it can leave people thinking something is ‘wrong’ if they struggle. And considering 90% of new parents say that they do - that’s a bit of a big gap in awareness.

So, I wouldn’t normally do this, but I was recently messaging Kimberley Nixon who wrote ‘She seems Fine to Me’ about her new, one-woman show at the Fringe. A comedy about Postpartum Psychosis. Yes - you read that right.

This is a really important topic. Kimberley is generous and open about her feelings, and her thoughts might be interesting for a range of people. If you want to read her thoughts - they’re in my latest substack post. Link in bio.

There’s a lot of chat about connection. And rightly so - we all need it, we are designed to try to get it from birth - it’s crucial.

However somewhere along the line, the idea of connection has got linked to the idea that we need to be perfectly attuned to our babies AT ALL TIMES.

An impossible task. Although some people burn out trying.

So I think it can be helpful to face the bogeyman and consider MISattunement. To consider what it means and whether it’s really as awful as we might be led to believe.

If you’d be interested to think about it with me, the link is in my bio…

Sometimes we don’t even notice that we’re performing. Often it can show up when we say things like ‘I should…’ or ‘a good mum would/would never…’ Rules that we maybe haven’t even chosen for ourselves but just absorbed over the years.

I’m not saying that sometimes we don’t have to do things we don’t want to do. Or that we should just do whatever we like regardless of anyone else. But there’s a difference if you feel scared of not being loved/ accepted if you are yourself without performing a role in some way.

You might disagree! Who knows - let me know what you think…

Been thinking this week about something someone said to be recently.

Be more baby.

And I love this idea - it’s really got me thinking. About what we can lose as we grow up, and how that happens.

You can read some of my thoughts on my substack. Link, as ever, in the bio…

Totally embarrassed that I’m still wearing my lunch!

Feelings - goodness they’re messy. And wouldn’t it be lovely if we could just let them go.
