There are a lot of yoga programs that have added "trauma-informed" to their description in recent years. TCTSY predates that trend — and it was built differently from the start.

The methodology wasn't adapted from an existing yoga tradition. It was developed from scratch, in clinical settings, alongside people with complex trauma histories — specifically to answer questions that existing yoga models weren't asking. What does language need to sound like when someone has experienced powerlessness? What does choice look like in a practice setting when agency has been taken away? What needs to be true about the environment, the pacing, the facilitator's role, for a body that has learned that presence is dangerous to feel safe enough to arrive?

Those questions were answered through years of observation, clinical reasoning, peer-reviewed research, and — most importantly — direct collaboration with the survivors who were in the room. They shaped this methodology. That's not a marketing claim. It's the actual history of how TCTSY came to exist.

850+ certified facilitators. 100+ peer-reviewed studies. 50+ countries, territories, & first-nations communities.
And a foundation that was built by and with the people this work is for.

Returning to class after seven months away following my operation was something I approached with a mix of emotions.

I have been touched by people's kindness pre and post-surgery; with colleagues, family and friends supporting me. This whole journey has been incredibly humbling. From the wonderful NHS staff who cared for me, to my amazing physiotherapist, and the unwavering love and support of family and friends, I've been reminded time and again just how fortunate I am.

I never assumed that people would necessarily be there when I returned to facilitating after such a long break.
Last night, stepping back onto the mat and being welcomed by so many familiar faces with such warmth and kindness was just lovely. It wasn't easy being back on the mat, and I'm not quite there yet, and I also felt completely held.

Thank you to everyone who has walked alongside me on this journey. Your support has helped me more than you'll know. ✨🙏✨

Yoga is often translated as union — the weaving together of body, mind, and breath. It is a remembering that we are not separate: not from each other, not from the earth, not from any living being.

At its heart, yoga is ahimsa — the practice of non-harm. Ahimsa is not passive. It is not silence in the face of suffering, nor neutrality when harm is being done.

To live ahimsa is to actively reduce harm — in our words, our choices, and even our silence. It is a commitment to justice and to the dismantling of harm in all its forms.

To live satya is to speak truth — even when it is uncomfortable, even when it asks something of us.

To live yoga is to be in right relationship: with ourselves, with others, and with the wider world. This calls for awareness, courage, and action.

Seva — service — is not separate from our yoga practice. It is the practice. How we show up matters.

Non-harm asks us to look clearly at the systems and actions that perpetuate violence, and to refuse complicity. It asks us to speak, to stand, and to act — not from hatred, but from a deep commitment to dignity and justice for all.

Right now, this includes raising our voices against policies and systems that devalue human life, the lives of other animals, and the health of our planet.

To practice yoga is to recognise that no life is separate from our own.

Union means we do not turn away.
Ahimsa means we do not stay silent.
Service means we show up.

Our practice asks us to witness, to care, and to respond.

Because yoga is not separate from the world — it is how we move within it.

What can this look like in practice?

• Educate yourself — seek out reliable sources, listen to voices from affected communities, and stay open to learning. • Speak up — have conversations, share information, and use your platforms with care and integrity. • Support organisations doing frontline work — through donations, volunteering, or amplifying their efforts. • Sign petitions and contact elected representatives — collective voices can influence change. • Attend peaceful protests or community gatherings — showing up matters. • Practice conscious consumption — where possible, align your choices with your values. • Hold compassion at the centre — for yourself and others.

TCTSY is a body-first, adjunctive treatment for complex trauma that aligns with the third-wave framework, particularly in its emphasis on embodiment and interoception (the sense of the physiological condition of the body). It provides an opportunity to practice exercising interoceptive pathways in a safe, non-stressful environment to develop a stronger mind-body connection.

✨ A New Chapter for Our Movement Community ✨

As the doors of MBM ❤️ Studio close, I want to take a moment to honour the wonderful community that was created there — and to recognise everything that Mind, Body & Skin with Becky built.💛

I am excited to share how we’ll be moving forward together.
