At our creative psychotherapy practice we love when our clients or therapists want to create cosplays. Either using favourite characters from anime, movies, cartoons, social media, YouTube series/shorts, or animals etc.

The performative art of creating then wearing cosplays, can be a powerful therapeutic process when done alongside a creative therapist. Safely going deeper to unpack insecurities, explore what elements or attributes we find fascinating in the characters we choose.

Alongside trying out or learning new skills, ways of developing "out the box" thinking, allowing space for our imagination to expand and transition from fantasy to reality.

Details of this cosplay will be added to our website later this month, https://www.artfulthinking.co.uk/projects

Alongside running in-house creative therapy sessions we also offer mobile creative therapy. Where our creative therapists can visit clients homes to deliver the therapeutic sessions.

We also run therapeutic groups and workshops, that incorporate psychoeducation and art making to explore a wide range of themes.

These can also be booked for workplaces and teams, looking to explore team dynamics, or process different difficult issues that might arise.

We can also facilitate transitional therapeutic groups for primary school young people transitioning from p7 to s1.

"Pouring from an empty cup"

Thinking about ways to refill your "cup", how do you take care of yourself, your needs, energy and well-being. Instead of mindfuly minding your spoons, have you been over extending yourself in order to offer care for others over yourself?

Art Therapy can offer a space to rediscover, learn about or explore yourself. Providing a therapeutic space, a range of creative materials, from art making to puppets and other forms of therapeutic play.

Potentially creating a bridge into our inner worlds, or to parts of ourselves that have been shut off, split or almost forgotten. Perhaps using role play with puppets or toys to explore the parts we've lost or which have become hidden within ourselves.

Learning how to meet your own needs, reparent parts of self and refill your "cup".

Art Therapy can be the perfect space to explore different friendship dynamics. Alongside your therapist you can role play different scenarios, act out ideas, or build up the courage to have any "difficult" talk with your friends.

Maintaining optimal friendships that grow with us is difficult. They require work as we grow and change. Sometimes friendships break up, or we suddenly find ourselves alone.

Art Therapy can be a space to process those sad, challenging feelings when friendships end. Potentially providing us closure by making tangible art pieces in sessions together.

It can also be a space to discover what you want or need from your different friendships, help you create boundaries, so that you still have space to be yourself.

Ways to dip into flow, or a content state of being for different parts of self to collaborate, realign, readjust and reflect. Using the activity of drawing the landscape infront of us, the sea and beach, whilst also listening to something.

Using mindful noticing of the way we feel as we draw, using oil pastels that gave us nostalgic memories. Seeing the different textures of the paper become highlighted as the sand is scratched in.

Practicing awareness of what thoughts, emotions or feelings arise as we create, holding a level of curiosity when we notice them.

The mother Cat, from "The Cat and the Dragon" anime, is an embodiment of the "ideal mother or caregiver". Allowing the audience to see each of our own idolised versions of unconditional love this character gives out to those she adopts.

Reflecting on our own "mother wounds" or when our needs went unmet. And using characters from books, tv series, movies, anime, as surrogacy for healing either our own emotional wounds.

Using this media as a way to grieve or use as a tool to "reparent" our inner children.

Feeling very grateful that our therapy room isn't sun facing and we have a glorious fan to help us keep cool during these unbearably hot summer days in Edinburgh.

How does the heat effect you? Are you a sun seeker or avoider? Have you noticed if your mood changes in the heat? Are you more sleepy or do you notice your threshold for irritants reducing?

Being able to explore your sensory profile might help manage when outside environmental factors get too much. Learning what 'you' need to stay at an optimum level.

In our practice we have space to creatively explore our clients sensory profiles, alongside cooling elements in our therapy room when it's too hot outside.

"Even rest contains movement"

Thinking about different factors that can make up rest. It isn't always just turning on the tv or a device and laying down or slumped on the couch for hours on end...which we too love when needed.

It's about the different ways we find to replenish our "spoons" or parts of ourselves that can get made weary in the world around us.

It can be in making plans, ideas for projects, making lists, future scaping or day dream about what you mighr do next.

It can be in the energy created by new hobbies, plans, projects or gardening, virtually or IRL. It can be growing new plants from cuttings, or getting new plants.

At our practice we have a wide range of art and digital materials for our clients to explore, make or create projects or turn their day dreams into realities only limited by their imaginations.
