🤔 In today's FridayFAQ, Dr Madeline D***s explains the common myths around ADHD and Autism.

💬 Myth 1: ADHD is just 'Hyperactivity'
The reality is that we see a lot of cognitive effects too, such as differences in planning, organising, time management, and emotion regulation.

🌟 Myth 2: Everyone is a bit "ADHD" or "Autistic"
Although many people have traits of neurodiversity, a diagnosis occurs when these traits begin to impact everyday functioning, both currently and throughout your development.

💬 Myth 3: Autism is 'obvious' and 'always looks the same'
Each autistic person has their own combination of strengths, challenges, preferences and support needs.

🌟Myth 4: If people are functioning well in school or work, they mustn't have ADHD or autism
Many people mask their traits, adapt their behaviour, and learn different coping strategies for their neurodiverse traits. This means that, often, ADHD and autism is not obvious to others.

🤔 In today's FridayFAQ, Dr Madeline D***s explains why ADHD and autism is often missed in women, girls, and people assigned female at birth.

💬Why are ADHD and autism often missed in girls and women?
Many learn to mask their differences and develop coping strategies that hide their struggles. Because their traits often look different from the stereotypes based on boys, they're frequently overlooked or mistaken for anxiety, depression, or shyness.

🌟 Important note: boys and men can also mask their neurodiverse traits– it is not just something that women and girls do!In today's , Dr Madeline D***s explains why ADHD and autism are often missed in women, girls, and people assigned female at birth (AFAB).

🎉 We are very excited to announce the launch of an Adult ADHD Peer Support Group at The Edinburgh Practice!

This free support group is exclusively for TEP clients aged 18+ who have a diagnosis of ADHD.

🤔 What should I expect?
We hope this support group will provide an opportunity for clients to build connections, discuss shared experiences of ADHD, learn practical strategies, and feel understood within a safe and supportive environment.

💬 How does it work?
Before the first session in September, we will send an email invitation to all existing ADHD clients at TEP. The invitation will include a link to an Eventbrite page, where you can reserve a free ticket.

Invitations will then be sent monthly, two weeks before each session. If you would prefer not to receive these invitations, there will be an option to opt out.

🗓️ When and where will the support group take place?

Day: First Monday of every month
Time: 6pm to 7pm
Location: The Edinburgh Practice meeting room

✉️ Stay connected
We will also invite you to join our monthly ADHD mailing list, where we'll share details of upcoming sessions, practical ADHD strategies, and relevant research updates.

If you have any questions about the support group, please feel free to get in touch.
