Over the weekend, we provided a paramedic led medical team to the ATHX Games at the Glasgow SEC.

We are able to support the event through the delivery of HCP assessment, diabetic management, wound care, ECGs and professional clinical decision making ensuring a safe event.

Pleasure having staff from 1st Focus Homecare completing their yearly First Aid Awareness for the Care Sector Course with us today at Midlothian Innovation Centre.

This is a bespoke course for care staff, raising awareness on baseline health, consent, medical conditions and red flags for escalation. Delivered by Frontline Health Care Professionals passing real life experience and advice, with the ability to answer questions fully.

With the heat upon us this week, it is important to take steps to protect ourselves and others from heat stroke.

Ensure hydration, sun cream and limit exposure. Especially with children and elderly people.

A good measurement of hydration is to monitor that your urine is clear and not dark. When we are hot this will dilate blood vessels, in combination with poor hydration may cause fainting and collapsing. Excessive exercise can also put extra stain on the heart causing fast heart rates, palpitations and dizziness.

If someone is starting to show symptoms as described, they may be experiencing heat exhaustion. When a patient's core temperature increases and becomes uncontrolled, this is Heat Stroke. If Heat Stroke is present, this is a medical emergency especially when they are unable to keep fluids down - call 999.

Immediate interventions for Heat Stroke are too rapidly cool. Get them away from the heat course, remove excess clothing and use ice packs behind the neck and under the armpits.

Preventing Heat Stroke is the key.

FREC 3 RPL - Last weekend we completed another successful course training new FREC 3 First Responders. Well done to our students on their completion. RPL courses are a 2 day intense course for individuals with prior qualifications to gain their FREC qualification.
