His residency included a pivotal exchange program at a prominent European Cardiothoracic Center and a six-month clinical research fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. There, he engaged in complex cardiac surgeries such as ventricular assist device implantations, heart and lung transplants, and complex congenital and valvular operations. This period was crucial for developing his surgical and perioperative ICU management skills. Dr. Giordano’s expertise was further refined during his second fellowship at the Medisch Spectrum Twente in the Netherlands, where he focused on minimally invasive techniques in cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Giordano is currently recognized for pioneering the minimally invasive keyhole mini right anterior thoracic approach for aortic valve replacement in Scotland. Since 2018, he has served as the Cardiothoracic Lead of the National Service for Complex Aortic Surgery, significantly contributing to the development and implementation of innovative surgical techniques in this field.
