All our stories are written in the stars…
Monday night we’ve been exploring the night sky from our very own care home. We discovered the Milky Way shining right above us and even spotted the ISS flying across the sky!

Inspired by what we saw, we decided to create our very own galaxy.

Our project is coming together beautifully, and we are so pleased with how it is turning out. We’ll be displaying our finished artwork, along with our stories, as part of National Arts in Care Homes.

It’s been wonderful watching our ideas grow and seeing our residents get involved.

And don’t worry… we won’t be watching the paint dry — that would be boring! 😂🎨

Celebrating National Emergency Services Day!

Today, our residents Robyn and Hanka had the pleasure of getting out into our local community to show our appreciation and say a heartfelt thank you to the incredible emergency service teams who work tirelessly to keep us safe.

They visited our local Fire Station, Police Station and Paramedic Service, taking the opportunity to express our gratitude for the dedication, courage and commitment they show every single day.

💙 Thank you to all our Firefighters, Police Officers, Paramedics and Emergency Service professionals for everything you do for our communities. Your hard work, compassion and bravery never go unnoticed.

We are thrilled to announce that Hanka, Kayleigh and Maruska have been recognised as finalists for Culture of the Year at the NAPA Awards! 🎉💛

Their inspiring collaboration with G‑centrum Mikulov has been recognised for its creativity, curiosity and genuine cultural exchange. Together, both teams have created countless opportunities to learn from one another, share traditions, and discover new ways of expressing who we are. 🇬🇧🤝🇨🇿

And because of this beautiful partnership, our Rivermede team has now connected with other countries too — opening doors to new friendships, new ideas, and new cultural journeys that continue to enrich our community.

We are incredibly proud of everything they’ve built so far… and even more excited for what they’ll dream up next. Their passion for shaping a living, breathing culture is truly inspiring.

Happy Read a Book Day!

Today we’re celebrating the magic of reading — the stories that shape us, the memories they spark, and the joy they bring at every age. Whether it’s a favourite childhood tale or a book that changed your perspective, reading keeps our minds curious, connected and alive.

We can’t wait for our younger volunteers to join us very soon and read with our residents. Watching generations come together through stories is one of the most meaningful parts of our community.

We also hope everyone enjoyed the books we handed out at the Egham Royal Agricultural Show — a little reminder of how important reading and storytelling truly are. The best stories are always told from the heart.

Today, we are proud to recognise National Food Bank and charity day and to support an organisation that is making a meaningful difference within our local community.

For this year’s collection, we chose Besom in Runnymede, a charity close to home that provides valuable support to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who has generously donated and helped us collect food. Your kindness and generosity have been truly appreciated. Every contribution, no matter how large or small, will help provide essential support to those who need it most.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported our collection and helped us make a positive contribution to our local community.

Letter Writing Day at Rivermede as friendship has no borders!

Today, our residents celebrated the joy of connection, culture, and friendship by taking part in a special Letter Writing Day.

Letters and postcards have been carefully prepared and sent to friends across the world, including 🇯🇵 Japan, 🇨🇲 Cameroon, 🇺🇸 Madison, USA, and 🇨🇿 G-Centrum Mikulov in the Czech Republic. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories about life in Egham, local traditions, and some light-hearted humour to bring a smile to our friends' faces.

To make our correspondence even more meaningful, each letter was translated into the recipient's native language, helping us celebrate different cultures while building friendships that span continents.

Now the letters are on their way, and we are eagerly looking forward to receiving replies. Our residents can't wait to hear about life in other parts of the world and continue this wonderful cultural exchange.

It's amazing how a simple letter can bring people together, create new friendships, and remind us that no matter where we live, we're all connected.
