Just when you thought you'd completed the biggest personal development journey (your counselling course), along comes another one.

Being self-employed is a huge challenge.

Not only are you solely responsible for your income, but you have to learn a whole new set of skills. Everything from accounting to tech to finding new clients.

And it can feel really scary, confusing and difficult to know what to do next.

But you don't have to work it out on your own.

There's other private practice therapists who have walked the same route and can cheer you on.

One of them, Katrina, was on my podcast a week ago. She shared how she put off starting private practice for years - but now she's done it, she loves it. And the episode is full of practical tips about how to get clients.

And I've just shared another episode to help make the thought of advertising yourself on social media easier too.

You can find both episodes on the Good Enough Counsellors podcast.

And although starting your own business can feel like a scary journey, it can also be tremendously rewarding too.

You'll see yourself grow in confidence, master those new skills and have the satisfaction of knowing that you're able to earn a living while doing the work you love.

So if you're at a low point, please don't give up. Listen to the episodes, borrow what feels useful and take one small step forward. They're all based in the real experience of therapists.

Where are you in your private practice journey and what feels challenging at the moment?

Join us on Friday and help shape our response to the UK Government's consultation on potential changes to employment rights for unpaid carers, and for parents of seriously ill children including:

- giving carers more unpaid time off work
- letting carers take a longer break from work and still have their job to come back to
- introducing paid time off for carers
- a new type of leave and pay for parents of seriously ill children, called Hugh’s Law

This is a real chance to help shape what support carers can get from employers in the future, and we'd love to hear your views.

Our session is from 10am until 11.30am.

πŸ“± Helping people stay connected. Strengthening support across Moray.
Arrows, in partnership with Moray Alcohol & Drug Partnership, is pleased to invite partners to the Digital Doors Moray Pathway Mapping Event.

Digital Doors Moray is a new project funded through Digital Lifelines Scotland, aiming to improve digital inclusion for people affected by alcohol and drug use across Moray.

Digital access is about much more than technology. A phone, internet connection or confidence using digital tools can make the difference between staying connected to support or becoming isolated. Together, we want to explore how we can strengthen pathways, reduce barriers and make digital support a routine part of care.

The event will bring partners together to:
βœ… Share local knowledge and experience
βœ… Map current pathways across Moray
βœ… Identify gaps and opportunities
βœ… Explore how digital support can improve access, safety and engagement
βœ… Shape future pathways through partnership working

If you wouldn't tell a friend, someone you love, that they "should" rip the living sh*t out of themselves for the rest of their lives because of something they were forced to do in their past, then maybe you have no business doing that to yourself either.

Grace over guilt.
