Motivation is rarely as simple as wanting something enough.
What looks like a “lack of motivation” may actually be anxiety, low confidence, executive-function difficulties, previous negative experiences or an inaccessible workplace.
Instead of asking, “Why aren’t they motivated?” perhaps we should ask,
“What is making the next step difficult; and what support or adjustment would make it feel possible?”
In my work, I help young people explore what may be getting in the way; without judgement or labels. We then turn that understanding into practical strategies, greater confidence and manageable next steps.
Sometimes people do not need more pressure; they need the right support.
