ATTENTION ALL DRIVERS (especially those unfamiliar with horses):
If you see a horse trailer leaving a large gap in traffic, please don’t assume it’s an invitation to pull in front.
That extra space is there for a very important reason.
Horses travelling inside a trailer need smooth braking, gradual turns, and plenty of stopping distance to stay balanced safely. Sudden stops or sharp manoeuvres can throw them off their feet, cause serious injuries, or even lead to a trailer overturning.
In this photo, the mare has very little room to move, while her foal is lying quietly beneath her for comfort and security. She’s doing her best to stay steady and protect her baby throughout the journey.
The best thing we can do as drivers is help by staying patient, leaving room, and understanding what’s inside these trailers.
Most people don’t cut in because they’re careless — they simply don’t realise how vulnerable horses can be during transport.
A little extra space can make all the difference. ❤️
