Volunteer therapist (UK based) wanted for a Roehampton University doctoral case study on mentalising and attachment in the counselling process.
I’m Freya, a counselling psychology doctoral student at Roehampton University, exploring how mentalising competencies and DMM (Dynamic-Maturational Model) attachment patterns unfold within a therapeutic dyad over time.
I’m looking for qualified, registered UK therapists from any modality (online or in‑person) who are open to contributing to this research.
What therapists gain:
- Your own Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) coded for both
Reflective Functioning (RF; mentalising capacity) and DMM attachment pattern
- Training and support to conduct the AAI with your client (ideal for therapists wanting to deepen their understanding of attachment‑informed practice).
- Access to RF / DMM‑AAI codings (after data collection to avoid influencing the therapeutic process).
- A chance to contribute to our understanding on mentalising and attachment dynamics in real therapeutic work.
What participation involves:
- Recruiting one new adult client (ideally before August 2026) with no current risk and no diagnosis of a learning or personality disorder.
- Offering a minimum of 24 sessions and providing 4–6 recorded sessions from 3 different points of therapy (ideally by April 2027).
- Sharing case‑relevant data (e.g., outcome measures, sessional notes).
- Completing the AAI with me (remote) and arranging the AAI for your client.
- Two short therapist interviews (pre‑ and post‑therapy, ~30 minutes each).
The therapist’s voice and perspective are central to this study. I welcome practitioners from all theoretical orientations who are working within the ethical guidelines of a UK governing body.
