Do you know the reason so many bowler-hatted gentlemen posed in front of Carshalton Park gates?

It's a curious mystery! šŸŽ©

The gates stood at the East Side of the park in Park Lane and in fact, served no useful purpose as the mansion they were to serve was never built!

I had the remarkable privilege of seeing the baptism register from 1644 at All Hallows by the Tower
and in it, the entry for William Penn on October 23rd.

William Penn went on to found the Provice of Pennsylvania and he guaranteed free and fair trial by jury, freedom of religion, freedom from unjust imprisonment and free elections.

His Father, Admiral Sir William Penn, is the reason the church and these documents still exist.

Although it is close to the site of the start of the Great Fire of London in 1666, the church survived through his efforts. He brought workmen from the Dockyard to blow up houses in order to prevent the fire reaching the church.

Meet John Walsh and his wife Ann Carroll, my 4x Great Uncle and Aunt.

John was born in Kilmuckridge, Co Wexford in 1867.
He had various jobs such as a marine fireman and a dock watchman
His love story with Ann Carroll unfolded in Liverpool and together they had 9 children.
A life well-lived, John peacefully bid farewell in Liverpool at the remarkable age of 89
