I've always loved the old stories and traditions passed down through generations, especially those tied to nature and the changing seasons. Hallowe’en night is slipping past…Samhain whispers don’t last much longer…

But there is one last Scottish ritual tradition to observe.

Rarely known of these days the Salt Bannock induces prophetic dreams if eaten as the last bite on this night.

The recipe and ritual I share in The Time Traveller’s herbal David and Charles comes from my Great Gran’s copy of The Scots Kitchen by Florence Marian McNeill…a book passed on to my Gran which was then left to me…seems like the perfect book in which to find a tradition for tonight

It probably comes as no surprise that burnout has found its way back to my doorstep lately. 🍂

When Verbena Books offered me a few books to review a while ago, I spotted The Anti-Burnout Journal by Bex Spiller and joked that it would be rather perfect for me, as I was just finding my way out of burnout. They kindly sent it along, but by the time the books arrived, I'd lost my reading magic. Even opening them felt like too much.

Now, as I'm slowly finding my feet again, it's time to turn a new page. 🌿 I already live a life of slowing down, but somewhere between managing a household with a pre-teen, a teenager, and the different needs of ADHD and autism, I sometimes forget to save a little breathing room for myself.

So, I'm giving this 12-week journal a proper go, hoping it might help me spot the signs of overwhelm before burnout comes knocking again. I'll share little snippets of the journey along the way, with a full review waiting at the end of the trail.
