Chloe Stead Equine Physiotherapy

Chloe Stead Equine Physiotherapy I have always had a passion for horses from a very young age. When I left Hartpury College I went on to work with a variety of horses in England and Australia.

While travelling Australia I found a passion for equine physiotherapy. So when I returned home in 2018, I started my studies with The Open College of Equine Studies where I have recently qualified as an Equine Sports Massage Therapist. The studying is still continuing for the level 6 Equine Physiotherapy Diploma.

I’ve always loved a before and after photo 🤭🙈

It’s amazing what a difference intentional, informed work can make.

📸 Top: The grey mare, from before I began my physio journey. I was proud of her progress at the time — but I didn’t fully understand what I was working towards or why 🤷‍♀️

📸 Bottom: The palomino, brought back into work while I was studying. As I learned more about posture, biomechanics, and targeted exercises, the change was incredible — not just in how she moved, but in her whole attitude 🧠💛

These moments remind me why I love what I do — and how much can shift when we work with the horse’s body, not against it.

My first insight to physio

This is Bella, who was only meant to stay for a summer… but we all know how that goes! 😅

She arrived weak over her top line, and I really struggled to build her strength and balance. We’d often “motorbike” around the arena with no real progress.

At one point, I started lunging her in just a headcollar out in the field—no real reason behind it, just simplicity and time-saving. No gadgets, no pressure. A few weeks later, I was out hacking and the canter felt incredible. I actually thought something must be wrong and got the physio out who gave positive feedback!

Little did I know back then it was most likely due to giving her the freedom to move and use her neck for balance, she’d started building the correct muscles. That moment was my first real insight into how powerful simple, unrestricted movement can be.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing—if I could go back and do it all different for her, I would in a heartbeat 💗

Had a lovely day treating in the sunshine today ☀️🐴

This afternoon, I received my RAMP certification!
RAMP (Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners) is a governing body that helps vets and owners find trusted, fully insured, and highly competent professionals. Being RAMP-registered means upholding the highest standards in equine physiotherapy — ensuring the horses get the best possible care.

Spot the Difference! 👀🐴

Last week, I shared this photo on my story and wanted to give a bit more background.

This lovely pony was part of my pilot study for my dissertation on postural changes induced by baited stretches. Since he’s retired and not in work, he was an ideal subject.

These two photos were taken just two weeks apart, and the only change in his routine? Three simple baited stretches, repeated three times each, once a day. That’s it!

The differences might be subtle, but they’re there. We expected some improvements, but it was amazing to see how clearly they showed in his asymmetries. He’s not perfectly symmetrical, but it’s progress!

Small, consistent steps can make a big difference.

Blood, sweat, and actual tears went into this qualification. Sometimes, it felt like a never-ending chapter, and that it just wasn’t meant to be, but here we are—I am now a QUALIFIED EQUINE PHYSIO!!! I honestly could not have done this without the help and support of so many friends, whether that was being on the end of a voice note/phone call for support, helping with my dissertation, getting logos sorted, letting me practice on your lovely horses, and probably many more things I haven’t mentioned! Thank you to everyone for getting me through! This year is going to be so exciting 🐴❤️
