It's Selective Mutism (SM) Awareness Month. One of the key principles behind supporting children and young people with SM is providing the opportunity for them to communicate without putting any pressure on them to respond. This quick tip is a great place to start.

A small shift in language can make communication feel a lot less pressured. 💛

For someone with selective mutism, repeated questions can sometimes make it harder to respond. Try replacing some questions with simple, supportive comments that keep the interaction going without requiring an immediate answer.

Creating more space and less pressure can help communication feel safer over time.

As a mum, I know how challenging it can be to keep the kids entertained during the holidays – and how quickly the costs can add up!

I love this post. 💚 Getting outside is fantastic for children, and all of these ideas are simple, fun, and completely free.

From a speech and language perspective, it's also a great opportunity to build vocabulary. As you're exploring together, think about the new words you could model. You don't need to turn it into a lesson—just naturally talk about what you can see, hear, feel, and do.
