Not every job gives you moments you’ll still think about on the drive home, but care does.

A laugh over a cup of tea. Helping someone feel ready for the day. Giving a family peace of mind.

At River Exe Healthcare, we’re looking for kind, dependable people to join our care teams across Devon and Cornwall.

You don’t need to know everything. You just need to care, be willing to learn, and want to make someone’s day easier.

It's Carers Week and this year’s theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities.

Carers week is a time to recognise the people who quietly do so much for others. Care often done with love, but that does not mean it is always easy.

Carer friendly communities are places, spaces, services and community groups where unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and valued.

To every family member, friend, neighbour, and loved one providing unpaid care, thank you. What you do really matters.

The summer holidays can be a lovely time for families, but they can also bring a lot to juggle.

Respite care gives family carers the chance to take a well-earned break, knowing their loved one is safe, comfortable and supported at home.

Whether it’s help with personal care, meals, companionship or reassurance during the day, short-term support can make the summer feel more manageable for everyone.

Taking a break is not stepping back. It is part of caring well. 💙

Speak to our friendly team to find out how River Exe Healthcare can support you this summer.

When the sun finally comes out, most of us want to enjoy it while we can.

But for older people, those living with health conditions, or anyone who needs extra support, hot weather can become uncomfortable very quickly.

If you care for someone, a few small checks can make a big difference:

☀️ Keep drinks close by and encourage regular sips
☀️ Close curtains during the hottest part of the day
☀️ Choose light, loose clothing
☀️ Offer cooler meals or snacks if they do not feel like eating much
☀️ Avoid going out in the strongest sun where possible
☀️ Check they are not becoming dizzy, confused, unusually tired or unwell

Summer should feel calm, comfortable and safe, not overwhelming.

Home care or residential care?🏡

It is one of those decisions many families hope they will not have to make, until suddenly they do.

And when that time comes, it can feel emotional, confusing and full of questions.

Will they be safer at home?
Would they have more support in residential care?
What would help them feel settled, respected and still like themselves?

The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. The right choice depends on the person, their needs, their wishes, their routines and what will help them feel most comfortable and supported.

Our latest blog gently talks through the difference between home care and residential care, and shares some helpful things to think about if you are starting to explore care options for someone you love.

Good communication is at the heart of good care.

When carers take time to listen, explain clearly and understand what matters to each person, it helps care feel safer, calmer and more personal.

Good communication can improve care outcomes by helping to:

• build trust between carers, families and the person receiving care
• spot small changes in health, mood or routine early
• make sure care is delivered in the way someone prefers
• reduce worry for families
• support dignity, independence and confidence at home

At River Exe Healthcare, communication is part of every visit. It helps us provide care that is not only practical, but truly person-centred.

Because when people feel heard, understood and supported, care becomes more effective.

This Dementia Action Week, we’re taking a moment to recognise everyone living with dementia, and the families, friends and carers who support them.

Dementia can affect memory, communication, confidence and daily routines, but with the right care and understanding, people can continue to feel safe, valued and supported in the place they know best.

At River Exe Healthcare, we’re proud to support people living with dementia across East Devon and South East Cornwall, helping them remain comfortable, connected and cared for at home.

This week is a reminder that dementia support starts with understanding, compassion and taking action together.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, a reminder that looking after our mental health matters at every stage of life.

This year’s theme is Action, because even small steps can make a difference. A conversation, a quiet moment, a walk outside, asking for help, or checking in on someone you care about can all be meaningful.

At River Exe Healthcare, we know that emotional wellbeing is just as important as physical support. Whether someone is receiving care, giving care, or supporting a loved one, kindness, patience and understanding can make each day feel a little easier.

Let’s keep talking, keep listening and keep taking small actions to support better mental health. 💙

Today is International Nurses’ Day.

A day to recognise the skill, dedication and impact of nurses across the UK and around the world.

At River Exe Healthcare, we see every day how important skilled, compassionate care is — not only in clinical settings, but in people’s homes, families and communities.

Nurses play such an important role in supporting people through some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Their knowledge, kindness and commitment make a lasting difference to the people they care for and the families around them.

Today, we want to say thank you to nurses everywhere, and to all those working across health and social care who continue to provide care with compassion, dignity and professionalism.

💙 Thank you for all that you do.

Stroke Awareness Month reminds us how quickly life can change, and how important the right support can be.

Every year, thousands of people and families are affected by stroke. Recovery can feel overwhelming, but with the right care, support, and encouragement, life after stroke can still be full of comfort, dignity, and independence.

At River Exe Healthcare, we understand that no two recovery journeys are the same. That’s why our compassionate carers provide person-centred support at home, helping people feel safe, comfortable, and supported in familiar surroundings.

This Stroke Awareness Month, take a moment to show support to someone you know affected by stroke. A kind word, a helping hand, or simply checking in can make all the difference💜
