When you introduce a maths lession into a Bushcraft session with boys who have real struggles to learn
You got to think out the box...
Young fella from ( Inclusion Wellbeing Services) had to listen to instructions collect & count sticks he got in the woods that had to be mesured & cut to size to make his own hanging basket...

Using the tools safely he had to saw & cut the stick that had to be mesured to size problem solve as he built his basket making it secure not to fall apart
Its was no easy task keeping him focused not to divert away from the project as he was trying every trick a boy could think of not to do it
Was super proud he managed to finnish the task. Well proud of his effort.
This afternoon it was about the boys getting physical building on their strength, confidance not to giving up splitting thick logs with axes, mallets, and using a wedge to split the logs finish of the job.
Had to admire their determination one lad, who struggled , walked away saying, cant do it, "cant do it", (maybe becuse the mallet was nearly the same size of him 😀)
Came back every time with more determanation that he was going to split that log
With some support from his pal they achived something prity impressive I know alot YP older than them that would struggle to achive this... 💪

The rain wasnt even an issues they all just got on with the job...

Reheat Pizza over the fire 🍕 and marshmallows for their effort...

FDAMH are offering a free course to those living in the Falkirk area to help increase understanding of neurodivergent conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and Tourette’s, while exploring how mental health can be affected by social, emotional, and environmental factors.

By joining the course, participants will develop greater awareness, practical communication skills, and strategies to create more inclusive, supportive environments at home, in education, in the workplace and within communities. 🫂

Delivered over four weekly sessions of two hours each, the programme provides a safe and welcoming space for learning, reflection and discussion. Each session combines information, practical tools and group conversations to help participants better understand neurodiversity through a strengths-based and person-centred approach.

Topics that are explored include:

✅ Understanding neurodivergence and mental health
✅ Communication and sensory awareness
✅ Emotional wellbeing and resilience
✅ Building inclusive support networks

A key part of the course is recognising the power of peer support. Shared lived experience can reduce isolation, increase confidence, and create meaningful connections between participants. Through supportive group discussion and peer learning, individuals are encouraged to share experiences, strategies and encouragement in a respectful and inclusive environment. 💚

The course promotes the value of community, understanding, and mutual support in improving wellbeing and reducing stigma surrounding both neurodiversity and mental health.

Some building on their bush craft skills, few just learning new SFL Katie being tought from the more experienced...

Its the first time in my career after 10min of nature therapy , mindfullness told the boys if they were quite in the woods you will see and hear beautiful things...

Its all went well till we rounded up to head back to school one lad who can fall out with his shadow, he's even fell out with Duke kicked off upset the group after all of them being relaxed, connected to nature...

First time fishing, the listening ears were on.
taking in my instructions.
No others to distract him
He was o natural, very impressed with his new fishing skills.
The cannal was like Sauchhall Street some anniversary of the canal opening to boats.
So no fish unfortunately.
Thats my excuse im sticking to it...

Where characters are formed...
Preparing the troops with the skills needed when you get caught in poor weather, there no time for mucking about you just got to dig deep, work as a team get the job done.

Shelter building using tarps.
Testing their skills in wet conditions getting spark with flint steel.
Target practice with throwing stars.
Just incase they have to hunt for their dinner...
Working together, all have a responsiblity get the fire on the go for warm hot choc putting some heat back into their cold damp bodies...

2 new referrals from Social Services 2 boys same age.
One lad spent quite bit time in the woods few yr back so was nice to see him again, poor sole lost his way got big hug from him when we met.
Another lad not engaging in school hasnt for some time was like star pupil keen and eager to learn.
Maybe something to do with the classroom having no walls...

Yesterday one lad still got his fire lighting skills got small fire on the go made his own noodles, was a nice relaxed atmosphere we had nice chats, looking at ways by spending time in the woods can hopefully help him find himself, give him a purpose, build his self esteem & confidence.
Give time time there hope for this young lad.

The other lad today was already preparing for next wks Kelly Kettle challange learing for the first time the skills in how to use a flint steel, split finger thick tinder using knife & mallet perfect size for getting kelly kettle started.
He learned how to make his own fire lighters using various resourses melting wax & vasaline which are highly flamable.
We did wee experiment to see how long they take to burn out.
12min later still had little bit amber get another fire started
He made his own tinder bag with everything he'll need for next wks challange...
