βοΈ HEAT IS A HAZARD β LOOK AFTER YOURSELF OUT THERE βοΈ
If you're working outdoors in forestry, deer stalking or tree planting this week, the heat deserves the same respect as a chainsaw. Heatstroke can come on fast, and by the time you feel it, you're already in trouble.
A few things we keep seeing on site:
π₯€ Energy drinks are NOT hydration. High-caffeine drinks act as a diuretic and can push your blood pressure up β a bad combination when you're already working hard in the sun. Water first, always.
π§ͺ Spraying in full PPE? Coveralls, gloves, face protection β it all traps heat. Build in rest breaks in the shade, remove PPE safely during breaks, and drink before you're thirsty.
ποΈ Tempted by that burn or mountain stream? Don't. Water contaminated by rats and livestock carries leptospirosis β Weil's disease β which can be life-threatening. Carry enough water for the day.
Know the signs of heat exhaustion: headache, dizziness, cramps, confusion, and no longer sweating. If a workmate goes down β get them cool, get help fast.
