๐ŸŒŸ Learning Disability Week ๐ŸŒŸ

Do you see my potential?

Meet Matt โ€“ trainer, changemaker and an inspiring advocate for inclusion.

As both a person we support and a lived experience employee, Matt plays a vital role in delivering the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism. By sharing his own experiences, he helps healthcare professionals better understand the needs of autistic people and people with a learning disability.

In just seven months, Matt has helped train around 1,600 healthcare professionals, challenging assumptions, breaking down barriers and helping create more inclusive healthcare services.

This Learning Disability Week, we're celebrating the skills, expertise and contributions that people with a learning disability bring to our communities and workplaces every day.

Because everyone deserves to be seen, heard and valued. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŒŸLearning Disability Week ๐ŸŒŸ

Do you see my independence?

David, from one of our Avenues Surrey services, has been supported to create his very own gardening patch, where he enjoys planting, watering and caring for vegetables and flowers.

People with a learning disability have the same hobbies, interests and passions as everyone else. For David, gardening is more than just a hobby โ€“ it's an opportunity to learn new skills, take responsibility and enjoy spending time outdoors doing something he loves.

Because everyone deserves to be seen, heard and valued. ๐Ÿ’œ

This weโ€™re so proud to share Emmaโ€™s story - a brilliant example of how confidence grows when someone is supported to shine.

When Emma moved to Fareham in 2021, she told her carer she wanted to do something meaningful with her time. That choice led her to our Autism Hampshire charity shop, where she began volunteering three days a week.

Fast forward to 2026, and Emma is now a confident 22โ€‘yearโ€‘old working four days a week at B&M Stores - a role she secured thanks to the skills, experience and selfโ€‘belief she built through volunteering. ๐ŸŒŸ

Her advice to others thinking about volunteering? โ€œJust go for it โ€” or youโ€™re going to miss out on the future.โ€ ๐Ÿ’œ

02/06/2026

We're celebrating the successful launch of four new Autism & ADHD Community Hubs across Southampton, Andover, Havant and Isle of Wight creating welcoming spaces where neurodivergent adults can access peer-led support, information and guidance.

The launch events highlighted the power of partnership, community and lived experience. As one member of staff beautifully captured in a poem shared during the Havant launch:

๐Ÿ’œ"Two teams with different day-to-days, but hearts that beat the same bold way."

๐Ÿ’œ "Because the magic wasn't in the talk, but in the way we chose to walk โ€” together, not in separate lanes, but linking arms across domains."

๐Ÿ’œ "So here's to us, to what we've shown โ€” that no one team can stand alone. But when we join, align, connect, we amplify, we all reflect."

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported and helped make these launches such a success.
